A friend sent me an email pic of Arlington Nat'l Cemetary at Christmas and I can't bring the pic over to this site. Wreaths on every grave. It's beautiful. Maybe I can forward the email to someone so they can share it...

I have been to Arlington several times, my uncle Charlie is laid to rest there. I have seen the wreaths in person, it is a very moving sight.

Apparently a wreath company in Maine supplies and delivers the wreaths every year. Free of charge. That's a real spirit of this season.

I can only say WOW and wipe the tears from my eyes............... :'(

That is a nice statement. My dad and I were at the river house this past summer and he relayed something to me that shocked me, as we were drinking a few and sitting on the pier. He wants to be buried at Arlington. He surely qualifies, a vietnam vet, was shot three times, and was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp as I was being born at Camp Lejeune Marine base. I told him I'd do what I can to make it happen.
The origins to the cemetery are interesting. It was Robert E Lee's mansion prior to the Civil War. Lee married Martha Custis--the step-granddaughter of Geo Washington, whose property overlooking the Potomac, was built on. Upon the breakout of the War, the Yanks wanted to "get even" with Bobby Lee and started to bury the dead on his plantation.

Little did they know what a great contribution they were making to the memory of war's greatest general .Pretty ironic..
