Title: '85 GMC S/C
Post by: d stroud on December 11, 2007, 11:42:54 pm
This is my my daily driver.   '85 GMC with the wheezer 305.   Shes been faithfully taking me to work and haulin Chevelle parts for over 2 years now.  I just finished a body-off resto on a '69 Chevelle and now that it is gone, I'm gonna devote a little time to my lil pick-up. :)

Gonna try to paint it and lower it a little over the winter.  And, I've got a Vortec headed 355 with a Comp 262XE cam on the stand that I'm gonna try to get swapped in sometime while I'm off for Christmas.  I'm gonna put every stinkin inch of that spagheti vacuum hose malee and every last bit of the original smog equipment back on (manifolds too) and see if the engine will still pull enough to put a grin on my face:D

The interior is shot, but I already have new carpet, seat cover, and other stuff for the interior.

theres not a speck of rust on the body, I think it has been garaged all of its life.

Should make a nice little street truck...I mean daily driver ;)

Yeah, its off.  I've taken it off and removed all of the emblems getting ready to start on the body work.  Gonna leave all the emblems off for a cleaner look.

I'm sure you guys have probably seen and discussed this truck before, but, it's kinda the look I'm going for with mine but in the factory Code 21 blue and the stripe in silver.

Except, with none of the SS stuff and with the factory rally wheels...She is still gonna have to work once and a while :D

And, instead of the "SS" in the stripe at the rear, maybe "GMC S/C" like the old YENKO S/C on the Camaros and Chevelles ....the S/C would of course stand for Sierra Classic instead of "Super Car"  : ;D  or, thought about S/C 383 ....or maybe not.  Don't know if I really want it that flashy.

Hopefully, I'll have pics of the engine swap right after Christmas!  With video.
and, if santa brings me that Cowl Hood, I should get to spray her new color by late Jan.

I've never built a truck, usually just ole muscle, but this truck kinda feels like a friend, so I'm gonna treat her to a little makeover  ;)

Nice truck. Nothing like rust free metal to work on.

I like the idea of the stripe with the lettering/numbers. Would look great.

Update 12/31/07;

OK, I've got all the accesories cleaned up and swaped over to the new engine.  Gonna try to get it dropped back down in the truck tonight and get it fired up sometime tommorrow.

I did re-install all of the smog and vacuum stuff, and still runnin the factory exhaust manifolds. I did have to tweak a few brackets to work with the Vortec heads, but nothing to bad.

Hopefully all that stuff want choke her down too bad.  I was really wanting the truck to look bone stock under the hood, and, except for the aluminum intake, it pretty mcuh does.

The engine should be good for an honest 340 HP even with the smog equipment, but even better and more important for these heavy truck is torque, and it should have plenty of that too.

I built a similar combo for my wifes Z28 except with a slightly smaller cam with the Vortec heads and it would scream!

Pics to be uploaded soon.

Looks like an awesome truck to start with. Lucky you! Mine was a rust bucket. Keep the pics coming and good luck! Remember--
It's supposed to be fun. Walk away when it ticks you off.

Good advice. I'll have to remember that.
