Silly question, does the a/c heater control head light up when you turn on your lights? Mine doesn't, and its a little frustrating at night getting the temp and blower settings right.....If it does "light up" can you replace bulbs? ???

I think it's just a fiber optic cable that piggy backs one of the gauge lamps

Mine has a bulb that attaches to a socket in the back of the unit. I do not have a/c just heat. 86 C-10.
I can get a picture if you need it - let me know.

Fiber optic goes to the ashtray. There is a buld for the A/C, it is on the passenger side of the unit looking at it from inside the truck. You are probably going to pull the dash bezel to get it replaced. I couldn't get my hand up there to it from the bottom.

Thanks everyone.....I'll probably "tear" into it this weekend............... ;D

there is in fact a bulb, as mentioned. the way i got to mine in my '83 Sierra was to pull the dash bezel, then there are 4 screws that hold in the HVAC control panel, remove those...then you will be able to pull it out a LITTLE bit, which is normally enough room, if you tilt it right, to get to the bulb. just grab the socket, twist it (normally towards the passenger side of the truck, but be gentle) and pull it. the bulb will be on the passenger side of the HVAC control...opposite the fan switch...
