Title: rebuilding door hinge questions

I rebuilt my door hinges on my 84 gmc I'm restoring but the new pins wont go down the last 1/8" or so how do you get them down all the way? Thanks

just pound on it really hard haha

When I did mine I had to use a large hammer and pound the snot out if the pin to get it to seat.  The grooves will catch then thats when you start pounding.  Mount the hinge body in a good heavy vise a start hammering.  Not fun :(

I would suggest a press. If you do not have access to one, any machine shop can handle the task.

you don't need a press for door pins, I have they aren't a major interference fit.  I have installed them with the doors on the truck several times.

best way to door pins in and out is an air hammer with a cupped riveting tool....same tool we use for changing wheel studs .....

Or you could rebuild them and never worry about them again. I drilled the inner part to 1/2" and welded a pce of 1/2" tube with a zerk fitting. The outer ,I drilled to 3/8 and welded a 3/8" solid bar. They'll never come apart , but they have absolutely zero play.
