had to get towed home last night after destroying 2 spider gears, breaking a pinion tooth, chipping a pinion tooth, and massively gouging the spider carrier housing.
im probably going to find a used axle from a salvage yard, leery about rebuilding with this housing because of the stress it probably has. have to get this back on the road ASAP its all i got.
while im going through all this work, might as well make it better if i can. will a 12 bolt swap right in?

12bolt will swap in, but you aren't gaining anything other than a bigger diameter ring gear, the pinion shaft is smaller than a 10bolt.

ok thanks. just got off the phone with the salvage yard, they have them in stock, possibly one with factory posi, gonna pick one up tomorrow morning...about $250, + losing a day's work.

Also gonna need a different rear u-joint since the yokes are different. Someone told me that the 12 bolt uses a 1310 u-joint and the 10 bolt uses a 1350 u-joint? Not sure about that part but I know for a fact that the yokes are not the same in terms of u-joint size from when we swapped 1- bolts into my dad's 79 K-10.
