Title: Leaf spring removal
Post by: qboy on December 16, 2007, 05:07:35 pm
I've got 6 leaf springs on each side in the back of my 75 GMC 1/2 ton SBC 4x4.   I want to remove two on each side.   Which two should I remove?

You do understand that it will drop about 1-1/2 - 2" when you take out the springs, right? :o

Yeah.   That's ok.   I've heard different stories as far as which ones to take out.  Such as "take one, leave one, take one leave one".

My dad has a 1990 454SS. He took out one and it leveled out the truck.

I've got 6 leafs in the back.    A mechanic told me to just remove the third one from the top and that should be enough to soften it up.

Don't remove the upper springs, remove the lower/shorter ones.

Well, it done.   Took out the 2nd front the top and the 2nd from the bottom.   Also, put on new Rancho shocks.    Tested it out tonight.   It drives real nice now.    Night and day difference from how it used to be.
