Well after one week of carb truble i got some answeres...My Holley 80487-5 didnt have a rebuild kit that would work for it ...so after many phone calls...I got a number 37-754 what do ya no...There is a rebuild kit...And what makes me mad is the punk at the auto parts store sold me the wrong one...So now since the float bowls are still leaking cause of the wrong kit...i have to rebuild it again...

That sucks! Sometimes you're better off with a company like Summit for stuff like that. I just went round and round with Edelbrock regarding their contradicting technical data. They recommend not using a dual valve spring yet recommend a dual valve spring. Not one person could explain why but they did tell me they don't make their own parts lol.

you wont have to rebuild because of leaky bowl gaskets, just replace them...
I am surprised you got the wrong gaskes, most holley's these days have a very similiar design in that area, allowing for one gasket to seal many different carbs. There are many places that sell these specific gaskets, by themselves. O'rielly's does, Pep Boys I think, and just about any speed shop.not sure whats in your area, but a few phone calls, maybe even to a grear head buddy, and ten minutes you should have those leaky bowls sealed right up

Well the first gaskit failed...The top got sucked into the bowl....Now its leaking from the front and the back...And i think the kit he sold me was wrong because i took of blue non stick and i replaced with thiner "cardbored" looking ones...Yea and i think Edlebrock has gone down hill a lil. You would think something like valve springs would be a simple topic for them

The blue non-stick are an upgrade, the thin paper gasket usually sold as part of a kit. They will do the same, just tend to stick after being tightened, and ran....
Lets back up a lil bit, see if we cant figure out the problem. First, I tried looking up the carb number you gave us, the only thing I could find about that number (80487-5) is after i took the -5 off, and did a google search....led me to one carb, which was designed for the 4.3's in a marine application. Oh, its also a High Output....but I dont think this is the carb you have. I looked around some more, found one other carb (jegs.com) Holley# 0-80451, came on GM cars 350ci-455ci from 75-79, ans trucks 350ci from 79-81.
Then I looked up the number you gave for the rebuild kit (37-754) on the vato-zone web site. that particular kit is for the Holley 4160, 750cfm. Look on the metering blocks for a part number, or the top of the air horn (location the 2 barrels, and some 4's) Without this number, and it being the proper model, its hard to get a good base line for troubleshooting. Visit the holley site if you need some help in this area, or grab a digital camera, and snap some pics for us to see.

See thats the thing....I bought it in 2006 from Advance auto parts...
Said it was a Holley 600cfm...So i said what the heck...And it came with the "upgraded" Blue non stick gaskits...The Air horn number is 80487-5
the number under that is 0320 And the number on the side of the carb is 80508....I called holly and the guy gave me 37-754 Which u said was for the 4160.....So when i got the wrong rebuild kit from the auto parts store i put them in and i used my torque wrench to 60 inch pounds..In a crisscross And I'm still leaking...I'm at my wits ends cause i cant find much more info on this carb..And Advanced auto parts is playing stupid and saying "Sir we never sold that carb in this store"
Update! ok ok i made a mistake but im still having same problem ...just a different number its 80457-5 no 80487-5

and the number under that is 0326 not 0320 as stated earlier. I would be curious what the guy at Holley would give you with the right numbers... check the one on the side again, too.

I don't know what brand of kit you were getting, but ALWAYS use a genuine holley rebuild kit..9/10 times the knockoff kits are what causes failed rebuilds.

OK OK ....Got the new kit... 37-119
BUT....Its the same kit i got from the autoparts....SO...it was a Holley...and iv done rebuilds before....so what would make both float bowls leak? i got the bolts down to 60inch pounders...Not warped not cracked.....I'm lost...if i buy a new one ...it might also leak..And the floats don't stick

look around page 30 or so, maybe your surfaces are warped. Might also be leaking from power valve or accel pump and just looks like the bowl gasket is leaking. Just a thought. :)

OK...now I'm at wits end...Took the carb off....Took a straight edge...its perfect.....The gaskits arnt sticking tho...I put it back together...I took the bolts down to 80inch lbs this time..."still in the Holley range 60-80"
And its still leaking!...I don't get it...The floats are not sticking...But its still leaking....Could it just be that i got a crap set of gaskits from Holley? the box did say 1993.....I mean if there not sticking then maybe thats it ?

straight edge on bowl, metering block, and carb face? Is metal cracked? All the screws in the power valve and accel pump? Are you sure the power valve and accel pump aren't leaking? does it have to have pressure to it before it leaks? or does it just leak while sitting, engine off?
Just trying to throw some things in that I would check.

What is your pressure at? Electric fuel pumps give way too much pressure, if you have one of those get a regulator. Did your kit come with a new power valve? If so, did you put it on? What about the accel pump? it has a diaphram that could leak under pressure.

Is the fuel dumping out the sight hole on the side of the bowl?

no its only got a stock fuel pump....and the fuel is leaking at the gaskits..I just cant figure it out....When i say i rebuilt it all i did was put new float bowl gaskits...And metering block gaskit and the check valve "umbrella" and the actuator....And its still dumping...no warps no cracks...And the bolts wear done at 80inch lbs in a criss cross...Tomorrow I'm going to get the non stick gaskits it came with and see what it does

Some holley and many edelbrock carbs had issues with the metal for awhile, they had mysterious fuel leaks that would show up after awhile, and nothing would fix it..Most people bought a new carb, some fought with the respective company to try to get replacements, but a lot were off-warranty. Yours may fall into this category.
