hey i have a 78 chevy truck and wanted to know how to check my balljoints and see if thay need replaced

Jack it up and grab the tire in the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position and see if you can wiggle it.

If your truck is 2wd you will need to jack it up underneath the lower control arm to unload the load carrying balljoint (do not jack it by the frame). Then insert a prybar underneath the tire and lift up and down while observing the balljoints.

If it's 4wd you can jack it by the frame or by the axle.
