Title: 700R4 Pump Ears
Post by: aort07 on January 01, 2008, 08:03:27 pm
I pulled the transmission out tonight and found the ears were broken on the pump. What can I do to fix this? Can I put new ears on it and how?

Replace the pump and converter. i promise you if you just put in a new pump gear it will break again. I've seen this 100's of times. When the sun gear cracks the housing will warp. Just get a reman pump and a new converter if it's been damaged. Go with a 13 vane pump

This transmission has less than 4,000 miles on it off a rebuild. I got it from a respectable shop in Florida that has the 13 vane pump and all. It had a hardened sun gear and everything put in it. It didn't do a thing to the converter. I will call the guy that built it tomorrow and see what he says. Thanks for the advice.

If the pump went then there will be junk in the converter. You will need a new one.

Wouldn't there be metal in the fluid? There was none, it was still nice and bright red like it was new.

Not necessarily, there can still be junk in the converter that you wouldn't see without slicing open the converter. You could try to use it, but theres a very good chance it will destroy the new pump.
