Title: Hazard flasher issue.
Post by: 81C10 on January 06, 2008, 11:50:37 am
73 GMC C15. The other day when I used the flashers on the side of the road, they wouldn't turn off (the switch went back in but they kept flashing). So I pulled the relay(?) (round thing with 2 tabs in an L shape) and they stopped flashing, but I also had no turn signals. today I pulled the turn/flash fuse and they flashed when I put the relay back in and the turn signals still don't work. I really don't want to pull the steering column apart. What can I do? I don't care if the flashers work as long as I have turn signals. Also, I took the screw out of the flasher switch that holds the knob on and the switch fell down somewhere, not I have an empty hold in the sterring column.

You need to take your steering wheel off and check the switch.

Thats done- its apart, hazard switch appears to be gone. Turn signals are working again. I was going to put it back together but the lockplate won't slide far enough down the steering shaft. It slid off with no problem. Any ideas?

sorry to slightly hijack the thread! I've got the opposite. Fixed my hazzard lights/switch but turn signals have never worked. I'm gonna replace both relays due to corrosion at the terminals but how would you test the switch is working?

cheers

Did you take the retaining ring off? The lockplate is also desinged only go on one way. You don't have it on upside down do you?

Do they light up but just not blink? Elaborate some more.
