Title: np 203
Post by: greenmonster on January 15, 2008, 08:34:45 am
Is there any way to tell if my truck has the part time kit installed. When I bought it,it had locking hubs on it and I can drive it in 2wheel drive. Is it possible to drive it in 2 wheel drive  if someone only put hubs on it.

Well it will be in 4wd but the axles will not drive the front wheels. See if it is turning the front driveshaft when you are in what you think is 2wd

Ok i will check later when I am by my truck. If the whole kit wasn't installed would that cause a problem.

A 203 won't have a "2WD" selection so what do you mean when you say: "and I can drive it in 2wheel drive"

I shift it into hi-loc and unlock the hubs. The front drive shaft still moves.

If you are in High Loc it WILL turn the shaft.  High is where you want to check it...

In Hi-loc both shafts WILL turn regardless of the hubs. the hubs simply disconnect the drive axles from the front wheels

With the truck in hi and the hubs unlocked the truck won't move.

Then you aren't in Hi you are in Neutral unless you are saying the front shaft is spinning. If the front shaft is spinning and the hubs are unlocked all of your powerflow goes through the interaxle differential to the front shaft where the powerflow ends at your spinning drive axle..

It is in hi not hi-loc.It will move with hubs locked and won't move with them unlocked.

OK so it sounds like someone just put the hubs in and was driving around in Hi-Loc

Yes you have to drive in hi-loc with hubs unlocked to get 2wheel drive. Is this bad. What does the shaft for the t-case in the kits do.

It prevents the front shaft from turning. It's not bad what you have it just causes more parts to constantly move that realistically don't necessarily have to move.  ;D

I have been driving my truck in HI with out the front drive shaft in lately.  It obviously is able to move around that way.  Does that mean I have a part-time conversion kit in it?

Sounds like you have the kit installed. My truck doesn't have the kit so it won't move in hi just in high-loc

I hope so.  I would like to see if anyone else can confirm that.  If I do have it installed, I need to go get lock-out hubs for the front axle.  Thanks for the input so far.
