im going to start rebuilding a 350 for my 79. Im using a 1995 350 block and im gonna use the vortec heads that were on it. Heres the rebuild kit im gona get for it- http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FEM%2DMKP%2D6394A311&autoview=sku (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FEM%2DMKP%2D6394A311&autoview=sku) heres the intake and carb http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=EDL%2D2104&autoview=sku (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=EDL%2D2104&autoview=sku) http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EDL%2D1405&N=700+0&autoview=sku (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EDL%2D1405&N=700+0&autoview=sku)
i was wondering what you think i should get for a cam- im gonna get one with the whole kit- lifters and what not. its gonna be my everyday driver still but i want a decent cam. do you think just a stock timing chain is good enough or...? i was also wondering what route i should go for a distributor. i want decent stuff but money is always an issue ;)
how do you think this setup will work- any thing you see wrong/suggest i do before i go buying all of it
-
I would suggest Hypereutectic pistons instead of cast. They're not that much more $. The performer is a decent intake but you should get one with a square bore if you are gonna runa square bore carb.
Go with a double roller timing chain

This is a good cam for nice performance and good sounding idle

I have had good luck with MSD distributors and their 6A ignition

isnt that intake i posted a sqaure bore??
got any certian pistons you would recomend vile- if i was to get the same rebuild kit with out the pistons included
edit* i get kinda confused when i summit the pistons and it starts askin about stroke, compression distance, valve reliefs.... ???

would this dist. work http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MSD%2D8362&N=700+4294908216+4294840140+4294925054+115&autoview=sku (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MSD%2D8362&N=700+4294908216+4294840140+4294925054+115&autoview=sku)

You need to give them a call and have them price it with other optional pistons. Tell them you have 64cc heads and what compression ratio you want. Also most of their kits come with a high volume oil pump. That's a big no no unless you have a high capacity oiling system. Go with a standard volume oil pump.
-
here is one with Hypereutectic pistonsm and standard oil pump. Couldn't select double roller, but definitely get one.

Summit now also sells copycat MSD distributors and modules. I've heard good things about them...that distributor you posted is just like a GM HEI ... I'd upgrade, it's one of the best upgrades you can do!
-
well i looked at the one chris posted- i like it but i need one thats 30 over and 10 on the main and rod bearings. sooo i hunted on summit for awhile and i came up with this one http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FEM%2DCSMHP765%2D311&autoview=sku (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FEM%2DCSMHP765%2D311&autoview=sku)
wut u think of that
i kno that it has a high vol. oil pump---you think if i call them when i order it i tell them i want a standard volume oil pump they would help me out or would they just wanna sell me another oil pump?
the more serious i get about it the higher the prices go :D
-
Definitely call them. They can substitute the pistons in your regular kit plus the oil pump at no extra charge. Just tell them what you need. Also get a steel sleeve drive shaft with your oil pump
-
Did know if you needed undersize or not so I picked stock.. Here is the same with .010 rod and main, standard pump etc...

Have you had the machine shop check it already for bore and rod/mains?
I would definitely call them and tell them what you want. They will most likely ask you anyway..
