Also be aware that there are several versions of these clusters. You can't just randomly chose one with a tach and plug and play it into your truck.
If you have an 86 as listed in your sig, you need a 1978-up tach to work. (82-87 pickup tachs are RARE and usually only found in larger trucks, but listed as 1/2T's)
In addition, 99% of people on Ebay don't have a clue about the swapability and list them as 73-87, which isn't true. If they are listed as "as-is" or "untested" read that as it doesn't work. They can be broken down as 73-75, 76-77 and 78-81(91).
Crossy who has built, bought and sold more than I ever had wrote an article on this which is listed here...

Well then i didn't no even a 1/4 of that..U probably saved me a cpl houndred bucks! I think ill have to go with a aftermarket then....I might get lucky and find one...it has a V6 for now but ill be swapping for the V8 soon...But i think its going to be hard to find one that even works
-
You can find them that work, I just wanted to warn you. When I sold them, I would hook the tach up and video it working on a running motor, so you could see it was working. It is a simple hook-up to test them so there is no reason why they shouldn't be tested except 90% know they don't work... it takes 5 minutes to test them...
If they are asking high dollar for them, EVERY gauge should work, not just the tach. I sold mine for 150-200, but all the gauges worked, not just the tach.
-
150-200 is a great deal...Gives the truck a better look then just having a giant auto meter sitting on the dash ..just beggin for some one to steal it...And i agree with ya...But most pepole dont no nothing all they no is they want the money lol
-
ok...Got me a tach...On a hei what wire to a piggy back on? its a sunpro tach...The a green wire for the hei....v6 engine...86 k10
-
Your tach lead is always the negative side of the coil. On a GM HEI your coil cover should be labeled Bat and Tach
