Title: TV cable
Post by: 87GMC2WD on January 31, 2008, 01:36:55 pm
so i went and installed a transDapt throttle body spacer, everything was fine except the TV cable is too tight. it wont shift out of first or second unless i let go of the gas. So i think its too tight and it thinks i have it to the floor when i dont. can i do it right up top or do i have to go underneath?

you can adjust it right from the carb. push in the button on the side and slide it all the way back so that it's really tight. then manually take the move the throttle all the way to the wide open throttle position and it should ratchet the cable out to put it in the correct WOT position. then drive it and see if it's how you like it.

Take it slowly when you are go for WOT, as if it is an old enough cable, you can pull it out of the locking assembly, or worse snap the cable itself!!  When you are making the adjustment, make sure that the cable doesn't have any kinks/frays or if it appears overly strecthed.. Replace the cable if you do find anything....

76 is right on the adj. procedure.  I have found tho that sometimes you need to go wide open throttle by the pedal and not at the carb/tbi unit. It's more acurate to get WOT by what you use to get WOT when driving. Sometimes opening the butterflies at the carb/tbi unit you can go past WOT but not with the pedal.

yeah you need to get a friend to push the pedal all the way down and visually check to make sure that you can reach WOT with your pedal. If not, then you need to adjust it so that you can reach WOT with your pedal because the TV cable will never be adjusted correctly if you don't have trure WOT.

thanks guys, and one more thing, my cruise control no longer works, would that be a matter of adjustment. there is nothing now, worked fine before i put the spacer in, now it doesnt to anything, kinda disappointing.

Did you make sure it didn't accidentally disconnect from the cruise control servo?
