Does anyone run standard steering with a tilt column? Just wondering if the tilt is strong enough or not. I have fixed/tightened up plenty of ones.

You mean Manual Steering right?? My Father-In-Law used to have an 86 S-10 Pickup that had manual steering, with a tilt column, and that thing didn't have any problems with keeping up with him..... Have seen enough 67-74 Shorty and Stepsides that had Tilt Columns, with manual steering as well over the years... I would think that as long as the Column is up to the task, I wouldn't see a reason why you couldn't use one...

I don't know how anyone can stand driving one of these trucks with manual steering. I would convert it but I'm sure the tilt column will loosen up

I totally agree on the P/S, we'll talk again when your in a tight spot with manual steering. All the tilts loosen up but when they're functioning properly they are as strong as non tilt.

Thanks for the replies. The tilt column I have is nice and tight and the column on the truck is broken. I prefer the feeling of armstrong steering. The truck doesn't have any options and I really like the simplicity of it. I have 255 70R15's on 15x8 and it steers fairly easy with the 4.3L in it. It may get a bit tougher with the extra weight of a 350.

Good thing about manual steering is you wont have to worry about going to a gym....And i wouldnt think the tilt will break....I drove a semi cross state with the power steering out....Was running bob tail but still...But it held up..not sure how it would do over time tho

This truck is way easier than my Ford I had when I was 18. I had a 78 F-150. In 78 they went down in steering wheel size and with radial tires and the twin I-beam it was a real bear to steer. On the plus size, no one wanted to borrow it...
