Title: eBay
Post by: VileZambonie on February 11, 2008, 09:33:47 pm
Once in a while I just go on eBay like a chick in a clothing store and randomly buy crap for my trucks. I won a 1974 GMC factory service manual for .99 cents and $4.00 shipping. It arrived today and is in MINT condition. It even tells you how to clean vomit and urine from your seats LOL I guess drinking and driving and having an accident had a different meaning back then  :P

Anyway I just felt like sharing. I also found a delicious set of valve covers on there too  ;D

That's how you've got to do it! Anyone who bids ahead of time loses and just raises the price

Yeah, I can't stand people bidding on things way before the auction ends.  It just raises the price so much.  You can tell who are the rookies. That's why you have "items watching" to  keep track of things.  Just don't forget to bid at the last second.

I bought my 91 GMC 4x4 Arizona suburban from ebay ($3500).

I've got to be honest, when I have something for sale on ebay its really annoying when people wait to the last minute because of the fact that the price tends to stay low...

I can't stand when people start the bid at .99 and have a $3,000.00 reserve. Why bother with a reserve, just start the auction at fair market value and let people fight over it even if it is at the last minute.

the people with reserves just want the most money they can get. if they can't sell it for that, then they won't. but i do agree with you vile. stareting anything at 99 cents is just dumb. whenever i sell stuff i just put it up for what i think would be a good price. let someone else get a deal on something. my truck came from ebay too. the guy was in ct, so i completed the transaction in person.

Congrats on the Score Vile! A few weeks after I got my truck, I picked up a Mint '77 GMC Owners Manual with Light and Heavy Duty Truck Maintenance Schedules for $14.00 shipped 8) The Guy I won them from, said that he had bought them at an Inventory Clearance Auction from a Local to Him Dealership that had them sitting on the shelf since new :o

When it comes to Auctions, I always steer clear of anything that has more than a few hours left, as there is always someone that swoops in at the last minute/Sec...

I `ll admit i am a ebay junkie too.I sell parts and also buy some great deals, heck i picked up alot of my sheetmetal for the stepside. A NOS drivers doorskin shipped for like 110.00 and some rear stepside fenders for 160.00 shipped.I got a owners manual for 1980 thats in good condition i think i paid like 7.00 w/ shipping. It`will be vacuum sealed bag and preserved for shows when i ever get it completed.I have never been good with last minute bidding, i lost alot of good things to buy with the last second bids.If i really want it and don't want anyone to get it i`ll bid what i feel is good enough thats well worth in its price range value.I got a good amount of parts on my shelf for the truck i think were well spent. But i will say i give people alot of good deals here and ebay.Heck i had a set of rear stepside bumper brackets i sold to someone here for 20.00 and i cleaned them up and painted them and they looked good.I seen them be put up on ebay for 15.00 more then i sold them for.Oh well i am not mad it doesn't bother me what bothers me is someone asking for opinions on prices for parts and then buys something and makes a fortune on selling parts you gave your opinion on them not thinking they took advantage of you.Heck i had a 1970 eliminator(cougar) i was going to make a real nice hotrod and i sold this same guy the center console and perfect front seats to him for 200.00.He only used the seats for his 71 torino and never asked if i wanted the console back and sold it on ebay for 280.00.If i knew he only wanted the seats i would've sold them to him and kept the console since it was indeed restored and worth more to me then what he sold it for.But thats water under the bridge and that was like 5 years ago and i am way past that .Sorry for being so long just thought i add my .02 into this thread.
thanks

Yeah, Ebay addict here.  I have purchased and sold tons!  I snipe, usually bid with less than 5 seconds to go.  It is the only way to get good deals IMO.  I will never understand how ppl can get pissed when sniping occurs.  When you place your bid, you are placing you MAX bid.  If you didn't win, your MAX bid wasn't high enough...period.

I dunno...There are some time when its good to bid last minute But i think there are other times when its ok to drive that price up some ...to steer away the less serious bidders...Then and only then is when i bid last minute...

80Stepside, sorry to hear that you are bent out of shape about the $15.00 "profit" on the rear bumper brackets; paid $20.00 plus @$15.00 for shipping, then turned around and sold on Ebay for $35.00, do the math, after it was all said and done and after Ebay fees, I took a loss. The only reason I sold the brackets was the fact I bought a parts truck that had a "mint" set of brackets that were not cancerous. Stepside brackets are difficult to find and I thought it would be better to have them on the market than sitting in the basement and why take a larger monetary loss if it is not necessary? The last set of brackets I saw on Ebay brought $85.00 and some odd change, if that was the case on the above mentioned brackets, then by all means be upset, but for $15.00, worry about bigger things.  I have bought and sold a fair amount of items on ebay and have a 100% feedback rating, I always set the opening bid at a price that will buy the item, if someone want to pay a stupid price, in which I do as well, then have at it, that is their/our choice.

Jeff, you are so right.  It doesnt matter when you place your highest bid.  Your highest bid is your highest bid. Those who don't like the ones who go in at the last second, are, themselves, trying to get the item at a deal by not really putting their max bid hoping it won't go that high.  Then they get mad because it did go higher than their bid at the last second---it is an AUCTION afterall.

It is a technique.   Those who want the item more will bid high at the last second, which prevents the one-uping each other for days. Why out-bid the other guy with 5 days left, I'll never know. Then they out bid you, you out bid them, they out bid you, you out bid them,...all with several days left?  c'mon.

-Andy (aka, ebay: VaBooknut 100% positive, over 870 transactions , i'm sick  :o)

Obsessive compulsive. Its easy to overpay as well when you get caught up in the moment. Know when to say when. Decide how much your willing to spend on that item and don't cross that line no matter how hot the bidding gets. I had the bug for a little while. I'm on a break.

Nah i am not mad at all i was just shocked to see them up on ebay so fast.If i knew that i wouldve bought them back from you.I only sold them cause you asked bout them and i replied and we made a deal.but thats water under the bridge now.I was heck bent on that other guy that took full advantage of me and to me this is my personnal modo "I `ll give you the shirt off my back and do anything for you. you screw me over once your done". I had a once good friend that i trusted with my life and helped him with money and everything, i told him i need the front end on my 01 ram to be repainted and give me a price, we agreed and he fixed it, well needless to say the whole hood started crows foot everywhere ,i told him of it and he seemed to think i was lieing  but eventually he noticed it upon another thing he did to someones elses  car and called me back said i was right, to me i never lied about that n that is what pissed me off more was he used cheap junk material, NOW  i  gotta have the entire front end stripped on my 01 ram since he did such a bad job.So to me i am not mad at all here its all good besides there just brackets man not my human life that was taken, but were here cause of these trucks. But my biggest thing on ebay to buy is lately NOS parts i got quite a few for this truck and i am looking for 1 more piece to the missing puzzle and thats a pass side NOS doorskin.I got a drivers side and eventually i`ll find 1 i am patient i dont want a used door or a aftermarket 1 i had 1 i got rid of it finally to the scrap heap. But ebay is definately addicting  especially to hard to find items.

thanks

80stepside

Hope all is good then, as I did not buy with the intention of selling, it was all just timing and I did not need two sets of brackets. I have enough extra parts like most and really don't need to add to the inventory.
