I was reading a book today (well, ok, everyday I read a book, but that is a different story) and read that Sir Isaac Newton discovered the law of gravity when he was ONLY 23 years old.
Ok, I paused right there and began to think, as scary as that may be. I'm thinking, it took him 23 years to figure out gravity? I'm sorry, they knighted him and made him a Sir because it took him that long to discover what every person on this planet discovered when they were 6 months old. We all learned to crawl on all fours because our legs ain't quite strong enough to combat the force of gravity to keep us upright. We stood up, we fell down. It hurt. We stayed down for about the first 12 months for a reason, Isaac! Geeze, I guess he was walking the day he was born and couldn't understand why others were crawling as an infant.
I think that apple fell out of the tree and hit him upside his head before he figured it out.
Am I out in left field here?
In this same book I read that Charlie Chaplin once won third prize ina Charlie Chaplin look-alike contest. That's pretty good, huh?

You the man SgtDel. That is funny. I got him beat though, I discovered that tires aren't perfectly round once you put them on the truck because the ground flattens them out on the bottom, and I was only 8. Where's my Nobel Prize???
-
i think they mean that he discovered the concept of gravity, not hat he was floating around and suddenly fell to the ground because he found gravity. we all known gravity, but we don't really KNOW it until someone explains the concept of it to us. before isaac newton, everyone thought some magic force kept them on the ground and from floating away. he realized that there was an actual force in nature that did it. does that make sense?

Monte, you have to spoil it don't you? ;D
Newton dropped out of school when he was a teenager, and then became member of Parliament. He was a genius, inventing the concept of calculus and began the study of optics.
I still like my pondered insight better ::) He just put a name to it.

my ex used to tell me the same thing. ;D
i just can't help myself.

basically he just named something that everyone knew was there
