I have a '76 GMC and I am planning on replacing both fenders, but when I started trying to remove them the clips that hold the bolts on broke, on the first two I tried! The screw just turns freely but does not come out!
Out of frustration, I garbed my ginder and cut the top off one of the bolts!
Is this a good idea, or is there a better way of removing these fenders?
There are some places the grinder won't go? Has anyone faced this before?

Spray them down with PBblaster and let them soak. I have had the clips break off, but they were on the inner fender to fenders pieces. The fender itself doesn't have those clips, just welded nuts.

Ran into the same thing... Just on the inner fender to fender j-nuts. I rationalized that inner fenders don't cost much and bought new from Chris here on this site.

How do I start removing the fenders?
Never done this before? Just don't want to bust my nuckels for nothing!

Not sure how far down you are, but..
Remove hood ( 2 bolts on each hinge mount)
remove grille ( should be about 6 bolts) to gain access to core support,
remove lower valence (2 bolts in the middle, 2 on each end)
remove inner fender (2 large bolt to the cab, 3 across the bottom of the core support, about 8 behind the fender lip
remove fender ( 1 at the bottom at the front of the rocker, 1 above the top hinge visible when you open the door, 1 at the front of the cowl/wiper area, 2 under latch header on both ends, about 7 down the inside of the core support.

Darn!! I was way off!
I just took the headlight bezel off and the side marker light off!
I'll get to it! Thanks!
