Title: Extang Tuff Tonno
Post by: eventhorizon66 on February 19, 2008, 05:24:33 pm
Anybody have a pic of a 73-87 with an Extang Tuff Tonno installed?  Looking for as low profile a soft-topper as I can get, but it must mount on the bed rails and not inside.

Great!  An overall angle shot and one where I can get a feel for how high it sticks up would be awesome.  Thanks.

I'm happy with that, no need to get the ruler.  Looks fairly low-profile, which I really like.  I'm thinking this may be the cover for my truck, my only concern is that corner where the vinyl isn't pulled down completely.  Is it always like that no matter what or do you just have to pull a little more if you want it down?  Also where do you have the tension rods set (upper or lower)?  Thanks.

actually the tension rods aren't in. like all tonno covers, when it gets cold they shrink and are hard to get on. i had the cover off yesterday and in order to get the cover on, i leave the rods out. the corners are also from it being cold and shrunk. during the winter, i leave the rods in the bottom position. i have to say it is a very well made cover.

When you leave the rods out does it flap in the wind at freeway speeds?

you know, i never noticed. i don't hear anything behind me, but i would assume it will move with the air passing over it.

One last question: are you happy with how the latch for the rear rail operates (snaps on/off)?

at first i wasn't sure how tough it would be(i thought it would break after about about a week), but after 3 years on the truck and repeated hooking and unhooking in bothe warm and cold weather, it seems just as secure as the day i bought it.

Well you helped me pick a tonneau for my truck.  Now the hunt for the best price begins.  Thanks a ton monte.

I had one of these on my 81 4x4.  I was very satisfied with it and I had the truck/tonno from 1994-1997.
