Title: Hood Repair
Post by: VeeTwin60 on February 20, 2008, 09:19:14 pm
I have several dings on my hood - for lack of a better term, it looks like hail damage.  There are a dozen or so.  What is the best way to go about repairing these?

Veetwin, In many cases, the best plan is to locate a good paintless dent repairman. They can push out dents like you describe fairly reasonably in terms of time & cost. Lorne

Or grab a new hood if it's that beat up

I've heard about the paintless dent repair, but wasn't sure about having this many repaired.

As for a new hood - I've considered it, but then I'd have to accelerate my plans on painting the whole truck.  Just don't have the $$$ for that right now. :-\

I've had GOOD guys from a hail team remove a thousand dents on many cars, you couldn't find a one! The key here is GOOD. There is a BIG difference between "car lot specialist" & the ones that do work for bodyshops. The small dents are the easiest to remove, because there is minimal metal stretch. I would check with a local bodyshop or two (maybe a new car dealer) & see if you can find a guy. The guy I use on a regular basis, charges aprox. $75 an hour & could likely do all of them in an hour. Does your hood need painted? Lorne

A true Professional PDR Tech can remove any size dent from the majority of hard to reach areas(within reason of course).. Generally the only indication that the work was done, is a small plug for those harder areas...
Personally I prefer to find a Tech that has had atleast 5-10yrs of experience under his/hers belt.... The Best Way I have found to locate one, is making a call to one of the Local High End/Luxury Dealership, and asking them who they use or recommend to their Customers....

Just because you have a new hood dosn't mean you need to paint the whole truck. Just have the hood painted. Then when you paint the truck it will get it again is all.

I know I could do that, but the rest of the black is so faded right now. :-\

Hit the rest of it with some Maguires No. 7. You will be dazzled!
