Title: junkyards

Does anyone know of any decent junkyards in the Socal area that have parts for these years. The ones Ive been going to don't really have too much for the square bodies. Location doesn't matter too much I'm willing to drive a little bit to find what I want. Thanx

Speaking from my 20-plus years of experience with Socal wreaking yards I can tell you that most if not ALL of them want an arm and a leg for their USED PARTS be it older or newer; and I mean ridiculous prices! Years ago a guy could find quite a bit of decent stuff around here for the older GM/Chevys and the costs were reasonable. But now good parts are scarce and the wreakers all know that... I don't bother with them anymore. In fact, I find some of the best stuff on eBay or you might check out the local craigslist. Of course you will pay shipping but even then it's way cheaper than wreaking yards. Private sellers are by far the best option for our older trucks... just my 2 cents. ;)

You can always post on this website under "parts wanted/for sale".  I have access to a real nice salvage yard within 10 miles of me and there are loads of 73-91's in there.  It is my toy store.  There isn't nothing i like better (well almost  ;D) than to stroll around the junk yard with my tools---like a kid in a candy store, except I don't have to worry about cavities.

Enjoy your junk yards while you can. The EPA is on a crusade to shut them down. Here in Pa they are becoming so heavily regulated that anything 10 years old or older is game for the crusher, and with scrap prices what they are things look pretty dismal. One local scrapper takes quite a bit of pride in the fact that he can dump a car off a rollback pull the rubber and cat, drop the fluids, blow out the fluff and have it crushed in under 15 minutes.

The salvage yard near me is an intermediate step before a car goes to the crusher. They leave these vehicles out in a field for a couple of weeks until all the vulchers (including me) come in there and strip off some good alternators, starters, heads, wheels, trannys, seats, mirrors, doors, fenders, axles, tailgates,whatever, then it goes to the crusher.

 I just buy a whole truck and remove what I need and sell the rest.  Thats how I have collected all the nuts, bolts, screws and brackets. I always come out way ahead $$ The last time I was in a Boneyard was Kingman AZ over 10 years ago.
