Title: transfer case

i am 15 and will soon be buying a 1976 chevy 1/2 ton from my grandpa. it needs a transfer case and i dont want to buy a new one. so where can i get one for it? and i am planning on a 6 inch lift with 35 inch tires.

You could difinitely find one at a junk yard, but I'd try putting a want ad in the classifieds first.  Someone has just what you need cluttering up their shed, and will sell it to you cheap.  What kind is it?  I suspect a NP205 (cast iron case).  Or is it one of those full-time cases?  (NP203 I think).

if the truck is full time 4wd then it is a 203 if it is  part time then it is a 205 for what you want to do the 203 will hold up but the 205 is stronger
