Post by: chevman1979 on February 26, 2008, 07:03:43 am
hello all...I have a 1979 chevy 3/4 ton pickup. It has a bad th400 tranny in it right now. I have a freshly rebulit th350 that i want to put in it. I know it can be done...but i want to know what all it takes for this to be successful. i know something about the yoke having to be changed....fill me in...

thanks,
mark

Mark, Is this a 2WD truck? Yes it can be done, but it would seem simpler & better to just get the TH400 rebuilt. If it is a 4x4 you need a different transfer case. I would think for $500-$600 you should be able to get the TH400 redone. To put the TH350 in, you will need to change the yoke (maybe the driveshaft depending on which length TH350 you have) move the crossmember (maybe change the mount)  you will need the TH350 dipstick & tube & install the kickdown cable. You will need to hook up a TV cable bracket on your carb. You will have to have the correct driveshaft for the TH350.
