Has anyone relocated their battery to UNDER the rear of the bed? I'm considering using a "dropout" battery box and wondering if anyone has any thoughts, opinions or experience doing it. I don't want it IN the bed or under the hood.

You might fab up a deal using a gas tank bracket and mount it on the frame where the second tank would go.

I saw that drop out box today on "two guys garage" looks like it would probably work. You want to shield it from the elements good.

On Feb. 8th,We had a good discusion in the 73-87 Chevy trucks section. It was started by Emmitt (team 39763). In there Jeff (bigblock73) posted some great pictures that sound like what your talking about. Check it out, Lorne

CAPTKAOS,
Thanx for the post info. I'm wanting to mount the battery inside of the right rear but it looks like if I do, I'll block access to one of the bed bolts. I haven't had the body/bed on in so long that I'm not positive but I think so. I might have to fab up some cross pieces and mount it more towards the center.

Are you talking about on the inside of the frame rail. I personally would mount it outside, becuse if it is dropped and your battery goes bad you are going to have to get the truck off the ground to get under it to get the battery out. With it outside, you can drop the tray and just yank it out, or not have to jack it as high...

Yes, my thoughts were to put it inside. I don't have room to mount it outside the frame unless it goes on the left side in front of the leaf spring.
