Title: Sure looks wimpy - crossmember mount that holds both the tranny and tcase

Sure looks wimpy - crossmember mount that holds both the tranny and tcase

Is this all that's supposed to hold the transmission and transfercase in place?

To me it looks like the transfercase is just left hanging on the end of the tranny by 4 bolts with all the weight and pressure on the case where the 4 bolts go into the transmission to tcase adapter.

Just doesn't look very strong at all.  Seems like there should be a tranny crossmember and a tcase crossmember for strength and rigidity.

Looks right to me. I have never broke one off yet. I have been pretty abusive to some of my rigs.

Sure looks wimpy part II

This stabilizer bar looks like an GM Afterthought?

One end bolts to these two bolts

And the other end bolts to?

A:  A bracket I fabricate and then either weld to the frame or bolt to the frame?
B:  A bracket I need to locate on a wrecked Blazer and remove for my Blazer?

How do you guys handle this Micky Mouse stabilizer bar when installing newer running gear to an older truck?

Just does not fit my idea of bullet-proof.

My first major 4x4 used a divorced transmission to a 2 ton military transfercase and both the tranny and the transfercase had their own mounts and it was bullet-proof and even shell proof.

Makes me want to redo the entire thing starting with a short shaft auto tranny and then going to some other type of transfercase.

Sorry, it just looks so wimpy and fragile.

Ugh...

There are also two long support rods that connect all the way back to the bellhosing in which you obviously don't have.

I just posted this, those connect to the bellhousing and to the two bolts you have there.

Mike...I merged the two topics since they were similar in nature.

So there's supposed to be another rod like this?  Or just the one?

And this is supposed to mount one end to the transfercase and the other end to the back of the engine where the bellhousing bolts up?

Just the one on the passenger side. From the two bolts you show, to a bell housing bolt. I have broken 208 cases before on rigs that don't have that rod. Cracks them right down the middle of the back half / cover.

Yeah I was thinking about the newer models which have L&R hand strut rod supports. Yours only has the RH support
