ok i just bought a summit stage 3 intake for my engine casting number 10243880...350...95-00
head casting number 14102193...87-up...305/350
my question is why is the intake too long and it doesnt have enough intake/exhausts ports its for a 96-00 engine?

maybe i worded this wrong... im missing a hole inbetween the two center mounting bolts. Almost all the intakes im lookin at dont have that whole.

Are you talking about the exhaust crossover? Is your intake a non EGR? What intake manifold did you buy and what is it going on?

High Sierra, How many bolts are holding your intake on the engine? How many bolt holes are on in the intake you bought? (I feel like we just did this the other day with someone, oh we did) If your engine/heads are '96-up, they will not have the heat riser in the center & there is no center bolts. Doing a quick search on Summit website, I couldn't make the part# you posted come up. The intake can't be for '95-00, '95 & '96 are different. What I found was #226010 for '55-'86, #226019 for '96-up Vortec, but nothing for the '87-'95, I'm wondering if that's what you have & are one year off as to what the engine/heads are from. The numbers you ran are right, The heads are 87-95, buy the intake for the heads not the block. The block is vortec and someone must have taken the vortec heads off and installed the 14102193's on the vortec block. The intake will be alittle longer, maybe hang over 1/8 on either end. if you have the summit #226010 you can make it work. The center bolts are different angles. Thats a good intake by the way, Edelbrock must have made that for summit (Air gap) considered and off road intake no EGR or Exhaust cross over.

i can get the #226010 because it doesnt have the exhaust crossover...right?
also i have heard from many people that these heads are known as "swirl" heads are not good at all. Would it be worth keeping them or should i chunk them and get some 906's or 062's so i can keep my stage 3 intake???

I misunderstood you about the casting number, I thought you were giving the number for the intake that you bought. Now Joe'sGarage has you sorted out. I'm not sure about your wording "I can get the # 226010 BECAUSE it doesn't have an exhaust crossover". I'm not sure everybody is on the same page, The 226010 says it does not have a EGR & by the picture it does not have a exhaust crossover. As Joe mentioned, the four center bolts are going to likely need slotting, Summit did not say they fit the '95 heads, but they will if you slot the holes. Your heads will have the heat riser passage, so if you don't have an electric choke or your in an area that has emission testing, this is probably not the best manifold for you. If you don't have to be concerned about those, then yes, you can use it even though you have the heat riser passage in your heads, understand? The Vortec heads are better than what you have, however I really think it depends on what your plans are. Do you want/need to spend the bucks to change the heads you got? Lorne

I'm sorry that was i typo it meant to say that i cant get that intake. So if i get the #226010 will the port in the head just be blocked off? or will it be better just to get an intake with the crossover already like a edelbrock performer? and about switching my heads, would they still be good for a mild street truck or should i spend $600 on vortecs? i can get enough money together to get them but it will take about a month and I'm anxious to get my truck running.

i think i have decided to just go ahead and get a set of new vortec heads.

Why do you want to remove the roller cam & lifters from this engine? By the time you buy the cam & lifters, you could buy a roller cam & be done with it & still have the roller set-up. Is this a 2wd truck your your working on? What are your true plans for this vehicle? Lorne

it came with that cam and lifters already in it. yes its a 2wd and my true plans is for it to be a nice street truck. i just want to know if the cam and heads will work good together.

yeah your cam will work with those heads provided you use the correct pushrods but I agree, roller cam is the way to go!

what roller cam would you think would be the best replacement/improvement of my current one?

Ok, I went back & read your prior posts trying to figure this all out. Correct me if I'm wrong anywhere. You bought an engine complete less the intake (now we know it's a Vorvec block) with a Comp cams hyd. flat tappet cam pt#12-324-4 (which means the factory roller lifters are gone) & on top of this are '87-'95 305/350 heads casting#14102193 (old intake bolt pattern). Is this all correct? Do you know if this engine been in a vehicle & running in this latest form prior to you buying it? This block,heads,cam & lifters,ect. Do you have the flexplate? Lorne

ya that is all right. i dont know if it was ran like that setup but it has all been gone through and completely redone. and has never been started since

i bought the vortec heads from jegs last night. should i go ahead and get a roller cam lifters and rockers? if so what do you suggest. ya obviously the guy that sold it to me took advantage of the situation.
