i changed my oil last on a 1983 chevy 1/2 k10 w/ rebuilt 1976 engine in it. How many quarts does it take for this year truck? The reason i was asking i only used 4 quarts 3 for the engine and 1 for the filter.

Small block chevy = 4 1/2 qts
Chrysler crossfire v6 = 8 1/2 qts

Did youc check it after you started it?

If you check out Auto Zone, they usually have an "oil change special" where they sell you 5 quarts and a filter for anywhere from $8.99 - $14.99. The reasoning behind the 5 quarts is because the majority of all gasoline powered vehicles on the road today take 4 1/2 quarts from the factory. If you have a larger oil pan or a different dry/wet sump system, then it's different. Big blocks are also different. Diesels are different. But 90% of the gas powered 4, 6, and 8 cylinder gasoline engines take 4 1/2 quarts.

yea it is ready full on the dipstick. I just thought the engine took more oil than that

My small blocks usually take just around 5. I get the engine hot before I drain it.

I did not want to get the engine up to operating temp because the truck sat for 4 years and i drained the oil out cold because i didnt want to do any damage to the engine b4 starting it up until i got new oil in it.
