-
eewww looks rusty. I'd get a new one too.
Nice looking truck can we get more pics? or progress pics?
-
yea i will definitely have more pics
-
look forward to them. I remember taking the pass. fender off our 84 as soon as we got it to beat dents out of it and work on it.
-
yea the the fender i am getting it is not new but is better then what i have and it does have a few dents but it can be fixed
-
If you can let me see bout what i can do for ya on a pass side fender.I made a mistake not looking in the box to see the other fender and it turned out to be a 81-7 aftermarket one so it got tossed. But i am going to a show/swap meet the end of the month so i know for a fact there gonna have parts for these trucks especially fenders. If you want give me a top dollar price you like to spend and if i can find 1 i`ll get it n we can do another transaction.I'm hoping to fill my entire list of parts i need.A lot of small stuff but it will add up once i am done.
thanks
pat
-
yes that would be nice i guess about the same for the fender that i am getting from you just let me know if you find one
-
Ok i`ll see what i can do for ya.
thanks
pat

-
Leave it on there- it makes it lighter! ;)
Just done my inner/outer rocker panels and dvrs side floor :-[ The rot never stops! I've also got a new fender to fit (correct year :D ) and hope it unbolts easy !!
Keep the resto going, the more you do the more you learn
-

thanks
pat
-
thanks it was not easy being my first time but it was fun
-
hey i am wanting to primer my fender and it is in the 50s here would it be all right to paint it
-
it should work ok just take longer to dry.
-
ok thank you
-
usually when it's cold it doesn't dry fast and runs easy, but you can sand out runs.
-
cool i think i am going to work on it tomorrow
-
Watch it though :), if it is a catalyzed epoxy - the epoxy will stop catalying at temps in the 50's.
-
dose anybody know where i can get fender bolts well i might have found them but i dont know
https://www.autobodytoolmart.com/pc-10563-540-9884-body-bolt.aspx
-
You can always raid a junkyard
-
yea i thank i am going to go to one soon
-
has bolt kits with the exact amount of bolts and clips included or you can go to lowes, or another hardware store even napa and get them. My local lowes has a whole section of automotive fastners and you can always buy the bolts then washer sperate.
-
Today i got everything bolted up but not align yet i am having some problems but here is a pic
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0623.jpg)
-
would anybody know why thay would a gap in between the top of the radiator support and the fender
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0630-1.jpg)
-
see in the top pic you can see where the other fender was the blue on the radiator support it should come over a little more all of the 73-80 are the same so i dont know what it could be
-
have you left ALL the bolts slightly loose and then line it up and then tighten? Its amazing how much 1/4" can give you 3/4" else where ;)
-
Hotrod, where isn't it lining up? The 73-80's were a lot more tough with the body lines. Loosen up the inner fender too or take it right out when you're trying to line up the fender.
-
Don't be surprised if you have to break out a porta power to get stuff to line up correct. Or just brute force, & ignorance!! ;D
Just remember middle school, fulcrums etc.
-
its not close enough to the radiator support the top of it anyway
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0635.jpg)
-
Looks like you don't have it properly seated on the Radiator Support.. Try loosing or unbolting the front of the fender, then pick it up and shove it over to fully seat it on the support, then retighten or reinstall the bolts...
-
I have had to actually encourage the inside of the fender ( second pic. ) with a rubber mallet in the past to get it to tighten up to the support.
-
it is supposed to be like the third pic right if any of you have any pics of this area it would really help
-
Actually the left, & right hood lines should be what determin how far in the fender is. Not going to do a whole lot of good if you force it to fit like the third pic, & then when you shut the hood it comes down on top of the fender. In theory it should be close or the same as the third pic. But if the hood fits I would leave it alone. the gap between the fender, & hood shouldn't be much bigger than 1/8".
-
well i think this is as far as it will go could the radiator Support be out of line this truck was rebuilt so it could have been in the wrong hands
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0636.jpg)
-
Looks like it. Does the hood lines match? If the hood line gets bigger at the front on one side and smaller at the front on the other side the support needs to be moved over. That will still not make the fender get closer to the support though. Like I said a few posts back. I have actually taken a rubber mallet and massaged the inside of the fender to get the gap to close up.
-
so the hood and the radiator Support is my problem not the fender but if i took a rubber mallet or something could i get the fender closer
-
I have no idea what the problem is, as I am not there. You need to access the situation and make a determination using my and others input. several posts now and I still don't know if your hood lines are right or wrong?? I don't know how else to explain it to you except if the hood lines up good why are we even concerned about how close the top lip of the fender is to the core support?
I was just stating that in the past when I have had issues with the fenders being to far away from one another, hence making the hood gaps to wide. I have used one for lack of other words, bash the inside of the fender in along the mount area to the core support to get the two of them closer together. Please don't use anything on anything until you know if the hood lines up or not.
-
sorry about that, the hood is not right the hood does not even latch right boy it did you did not have to it push down to shut it
-
Did it latch before you took the old fender off? Is it the latch? How are the body lines off? Which way?
-
yea it latched good before i took the fender off i would say to the left thay are off what is that best way to fix it
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0638.jpg)
-
blazin you just tell me what to do and i will do it but to save you time i still have to get a passenger fender so it would be best to get it first and then fix the hood
-
It appears that the hood was bolted back on wrong...did you get the bolts back in the same position where they came out? I would start by loosening the all of the hood bolts and move the right side forward and the left side back. That should get you close.
-
yea i looked at the fender that i took off and put it in the same place but that did not help
-
Take some close up pics of the hood hinges where they are bolted to the hood.
-
If you took all the fixings out and pushed the fender up does it line up? if it does the re-drill the holes and bolt up ;)
-
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0648.jpg)
-
if you need more pics let me know
-
I would try to slide the right side forward, & the left side back if it will go anymore.
Looks like your left hood hinge needs to drop down on the fender too.
-
loosen the bolts on the passenger side and slide the hood forward and see what that does for you.
-
ok thank you
-
was there any differences on the 73-80 fenders on the inside i know what i have read and yall have told me but i looked at my old fender and my new one and thay are different at the top i think this is the problem
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0636-1.jpg)
-
is this a problem or am i just being paranoid because the fender fits its just got that gap where the hood closes
-
I can't really tell from the pics, but it appears you need to shift the core support over if the gaps at the back are ok and the fronts are off...
-
its fine on the back but the front that is as close as it will go to the radiator support
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0630-1.jpg)
-
I mean moving the WHOLE core support (unbolting the bushings) and shifting it to the ungapped side.
In this pic, the bolts are all the way in, is it still like that?
-
yea i tightened all the bolts and it still had the gap but i took the fender off and put my old on and there is still a gap so i guess there is nothing wrong but what you said about moving the core support i will try that to
old one
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0654.jpg)
new one
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0630.jpg)
they are the same except for this area
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0653-1.jpg)
-
this is the difference but it really did not change any thing
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0658.jpg)
-
hey i got a guy to send me a reproduction fender and it looks just like my old fender i think i had a reproduction fender on my truck
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/untitled-2.jpg)
-
Is it a GM fender? Is it dented outward on the inside? If it fits that bad just get a different fender.
-
the fenders are not dented but i am going to get new fender i know for sure a passenger fender hey vile are your fenders reproduction fenders because that fit good
-
On my 74 I have replacement GM fenders but I have a few aftermarket ones upstairs in my garage. I just gave one away. Too bad you didn't live closer....
-
would you ship them i will pay shipping
-
Wait didn't you just say you got replacement fenders shipped to you? ???
-
no i just got a guy to send me a pic i did get a fender but that is the one i am having problems with
-
today i got my hood align pretty good
-
So is the drivers fender workingout for you ok?I`ll see what i can do for a pass fender if you still need 1, i may hit a local yard and i think they got some 70s trucks so i`ll keep ya informed.
thanks
pat
-
ok, cool.
Thank you
-
i got some work on the fender done after it stop raining it had some dents in it so i used some filler
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0716.jpg)
-
ok when i got the fender i had some problems putting it on then i put my old fender on and it fit the same way so i put my new one back on ok now i got it primed and i started putting stuff back on when i got to the head light bezel the screw holes does not line up i got one in the top left side and the bottom left side but the fender is not far enough over to put the rest of them in.
-
No idea, never had that happen.
-
Post pics so we can see.
-
here thay are if you need anymore pics just let me know
(http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/74chevy/103_0767.jpg)
-
I have no idea what we are actually looking at other than a bezel. What is behind the bolt holes?
-
Try taking the screws out, Then start each one before tightening the others. Slowly turn each one a few turns till they all pull up. You may be able to adjust the bezel around a bit as you go.
Most of the time with sheet metal and trim type thing its better to get all the bolts/screw's started before tightening single bolts down.
-
agreed, if nothing else remove it and make sure all clips are there or holes aint stripped or oversized. I've used whatever I could fit in the screw hole to move clips around and line em up, or put in new ones.
-
Line the clips up with a piece of masking tape if they are moving and line them up one at a time. Is the bezel not sitting correctly?
-
i pushed the clips over and put it back on but that did not do anything
-
If the clips are moving around take them off and pinch them with some pliers, then reinstall them. They should fit pretty tight. Then use a strait pick to line them up with the holes, through the head light door / bezel.
-
ok thanks
-
hey is there a way to take the inner fender out without taking the fender off
-
Yes, If you take all of the bolts out, it will practically fall down & hit you on the head while removing the last bolt. I always install the inners after the fenders are installed. It makes lining up the fender easier I feel. Lorne
-
thanks Lorne

I would just get a new hood.... if the truck is going to be worth it just wait and get a nice steel cowl hood.
