Title: 1990 jimmy floors
Post by: ssgoodman on March 13, 2008, 08:15:43 pm
the floor under the front seats of my jimmy are rusted through and i am thinking about putting a new floor in it.  i was wondering if the floor pans that captain sells here would work or if that is just the part that is under your feet?  i know the chevy trucks have a lump that the seat sits on and the jimmy just has a flat floor so it would seem the truck floor pans wouldnt work but correct me if i am wrong.

also what kind of equipment would i need for that kind of job?  what kind of welder should i be looking for for body repair?  also i suppose an air compressor would be nice for grinding (something i need anyway)

yeah the floor pans are for under your feet so you'd have to form some patch panels. A mig welder will do the trick nice and they are very versatile for the price.

I got the sheetmetal to replace practically the whole floor.

chris do you have any pieces that fit the area behind the door?  the part where the floor meets the inside of the cab?  not sure if i am describing it well enough i'll try to get pictures of it.  the floor is majorly rusted and it went up the cab sides.  this simple job just keeps getting more and more work.

also is there a floor piece that has the rounded hump on it?  the piece that fits the lower floor to the upper floor in the rear?

Sutton,
I think you lost me in the description..  I think you are talking about the area inside the door behind the front seats where the seatbelts go near the floor.  If so, that is flat and you can get that anywhere, so it isn't produced.

On the other part, I am thinking you are talking about the "ledge" where the flip hinge of the seat mounts.  If so, nada.  Still it is flat, so....

yeah the first one i was talking about is between the seats right below where the lower seat belt anchor is.  the second on i was talking about is the hump that is right in front of the rear seat, where the floors meet, its about a 6 inch little step.

i seen a post on K5 colorado that a guy did his whole floor in diamond plates but it looks like he had to do alot of fab work to get it in there, plus i bet that diamond plate would add a lot of weight.

any suggestions on metal for them 2 pieces?

I will hijack but a blazer is next :)

Chris do the floor sills (pieces under the floor that go across the frame) come on the bed floor ? If not do you carry them ? Lastly the piece on the back that holds the cargo door are the hinges installed ?

Thanks
