have a 86 gmc with 350/700r4.shifts late when cruising and early and not very firm when wot.is it to tight or loose?won't self adjust.or do i need a new one?
-
tighten up the cable. Depress the tab and push the plunger toward the firewall.
-
thanks i will try that.also won't shift into overdrive?maybe time to change filter and see if that helps at all.truck was setting for about a year.
-
i pushed it all the way in.and it acts better but mite need more.do these stretch over time?
-
have you changed your carb? is there slack in the cable with the throttle closed?
-
i just put the motor in but it is a quadrajet on it.and there is some slack with throttle closed.is it susposed to be tight?thanks for the help
-
if you disconnect the cable and pull on it is there spring tension on it?
-
yes there is tension.and with it all the way towards the cab.you can move it 1/8to1/4in before it pulls out the slack.and moves the cable.
-
If you hold the throttle wide open how much more cable can you pull?
-
none actually it was keeping my carb from opening all the way.how much should there be?there is another hole behind and just barely higher.should it be in that one?i haven't moved it.it's where it was when i got the motor.and it won't self adjust.
-
If it does't self adjust then the ratcheting mechanism is busted. I'd just order a new one and it'll work like new.
-
If it's too tight you can manually back it off a few clicks, however this won't help with your early shift. If it's still shifting too soon with the TV cable properly adjusted I'd check the governer valve and see if it's sticking.
-
is that the one on the side?under the round cover?how does it come off?would a new one fix it?if so i will order one.
-
and thanks for all the help!!it is drivable but this kind of stuff really bugs me.want it to be perfect.
-
yeah pop the cover off and pull the valve out. Check to make sure the springs are there and that the valve moves freely inside it's bore.
-
k will do it tomorrow.does it just pop off?what holds it on?and will i allot of fluid?
-
just work it off with a long gasket scraper or screwdriver and a hammer. have a catch pan to collect any fluid spilled.
-
thanks!!i will report back tomorrow. ;D
-
couldn't get it off.i can spin it but.there is a drive line and 3in exhaust in the way ;D
-
I think you were trying to take off the servo. You're on the wrong side of the trans....see this black cover?
