What I've done is: Get a 4' or so long 2x4, put a 3/8" x about 4" lag bolt in about an inch from each end, hook a spring on each one, use a small ratchet strap one to the other, give it a few clicks. Sandblast, scrub, what have you & paint them. I have a tool made to install them: a heavy "S" hook in one end of a 1" x 12" x 1/8" steel strap with a round rod on the other end for a handle, just hook the spring on the back of the hinge & put "the tool" on the front loop & pull. Works nice & easy. Lorne

I just stretch mine out and paint them and they always come out good. If you want to get really snazzy you can send the whole thing out to be chromed
