ive been tring the past hr or so to set my carb
its a Holley 600 80457-s.
trying to set it with vaccume with no sucess.
all i can get is 10 to 12 inches and theres no leaks.
idles in gear rough.
have to set it close to 1k rpms in park to idle at 650 to 700 cleanly in gear.
as for motor it has a 2101 preformet intake with about a 274 ish cam.
not 100% for sure due to it came in the motor.

Ok what do you mean set the carb? What are you trying to do? Trying to fine tune your idle mixture with a vacuum gauge is fine but that's not how you set up your base settings. #1 before you try and mess with your carburetor anymore take a look at your ignition timing. What kind of distributor do you have? What is your base timing set at? Do you have vacuum advance hooked up to manifold or ported vacuum?
-
mainly idle settings.
its a stock HEi with a Super Coil.
base is set a 4 BTDC.
and vaccume is hooked to the timed port on the side of the carb.
-
Ok set your base timing around 10° then try hooking the vacuum advance to manifold vacuum. Adjust the carburetor idle speed from there.
Once you're done check your total advance.
-
alright ill try that.
IIRC i had the total timing set at 32
-
Yeah, you need to advance your timing and give what I said a try. I'm sure you'll see much better results.
-
4 degrees, yikes, generally SBC like about 10-12 degrees...
-
thanks guys. cranked it to 12 and its acting a lot better.
not just gotta set this idle.
-
lol well it had a bit of ping with 12 so i kicked it to 10 and no ping.
as i said before thanks again guys.
great help.

Glad you got it sorted out.
