when putting the vortec heads on my old block. which pushrods should i use. the ones that were there. or the ones that came on the vortec motor?

Mike, The ones for the Vortec engine will be too short, due to you having flat tappet lifters in your engine. You need to check the pushrod length carefully any time you alter any part of the valvetrain or engine parts such as block deck hight,head gasket thickness, heads, ect. Depending on the "stack-up" of the varying parts & pieces neither one will most likely be correct. Right of of the top, what rocker arms you use plays a big part in it. It will be best to make or buy an adjustable length pushrod for checking, then purchase the ones that produce the correct pattern throughout the motion. Lorne

I have set-up and used Vortec heads on 3 different engines including the one currently in my '85 GMC.  Each time, I used pushrods from the base engine (not the vortec push rods).  The geometry worked perfect each time.

intsalled heads now my motor barely will crank over. tried to fire a couple times but now starter barely cranks and clicks

Is the battery dead? firing order right? Distributor in correctly?

yeah . idk . starter is strugglin to turn. and caught on fire.

Mike, Are you sure the distributor is not in 180* out? That would be my guess from your description. Lorne

i got it runnin but once i did some of my rockers loosened back up? should i have to re tighten them?
