I don't know how England is but New England is beautiful.

England-UK. Stunning scenery and.............. well thats about it! The lifestyle here sucks, the government sucks the cost of living sucks, import costs of parts sucks  ;) (but worth it!) The place is full of foreigner

maybe we should start a new thread on comparisons!!

I bet the skiing is better in New England.  However, UK England is closer to the Switzerland slopes  ;D.

At the moment we are overrun with Polish and Lithuanians. Some towns even have roads in that have shops selling Polish foods and wares and they won't/can't serve you 'cos they can't speak English!

There is a definate social class gap over here. A huge drug and crime related issue that seems to be swept under the table.

We're not allowed to carry weapons to protect ourselves. Not even in the home. If you beat an intruder YOU get fined not the intruder!!

Best thing about Switzerland - cheese ;D

Best thing i liked about new england is the seafood and the changing of the leaves in the fall. The smell of autumn.Heck i use to live in rhode island for 28 1/2 years till i moved to florida in `02.If my job had a plant in rhode island as big as this 1 and they needed help i wouldnt hesitate and go back.We went to sugarloaf mountains in vermont(i believe its there)  1 time with our ATV`s and motorcycles and it got so cold 1 night when we went thru the brooks nearby the water froze our front wheels up and we had t boil hot water to free them. The water was so pure it was refreshing to wash up in it.So yeah you can say i am a bit homesick  ;D.

thanks

I know a couple guys that are or have been married to German women. I work for a couple allot doing handy man stuff, helped build their house, she is German. Growing up one of our neighbors was German. He was here originally because of work. Ever heard of International Packings Corp. IPC ? They have a plant about 10 miles from me, they have another about 30 miles away, and some others in the states. They have a couple in the UK, and Germany. have some towel heads that own convenience stores and pizza places. Few other nationalities scattered in here and there. We have a pretty good concentration of earth biscuts around here! We have allot of veterans. (1) because we have two VA hospitals in N.H.
(2) N.H. offers the best VA benefits in the U.S.
Drugs are around but not bad everywhere. We have three large cities in New Hampshire. They all have there drug problems, one is allot worse than the other two. About 10 medium cities same there, a couple are worse than the rest. Pot is everywhere, but not what I would consider a big problem.
Fall and spring are my favorite times of year, they smell so good. The black flies and mosquitoes stink!

That's pretty bad but I see a lot of comparisons here along that issue.  We have way more guns in the states, so, we are in a situation where we have to have a gun to be the equalizer for protection.  But, if you shoot, shoot to kill so they will not say their side or you will be sued even though you are defending family and property.

Our Supreme Court in D.C. is hearing a case right now about whether Wash D.C. law about no one able to posses a hand gun is constitutional or not...most say it goes against the 2nd amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Yep dead men can't talk!

I like the style! I've always said I'd beat the intruder to an inch of their life then drag em outside and leave em on the pavement (sidewalk). If he needed treatment he'd have to explain how he got his injuries  ;)

Tried to do some work on the truck today and guess what................. rain/hailstones etc
Totally naff weather for our four day Easter Break

We have been lucky. Its been a pretty mild winter as far as temps go. Haven't had to much below zero stuff. The few times it did it was only a few days.

The winter here has been fairly mild. Probably only half a dozen days with a frost on the car to scrape. But alas it has been wet. Very wet! Several counties (small states!) have been flooded for weeks on end ruining houses, cars, land etc

Fortunately I live in a "dry" area and not even the truck dips its tyres :)

We had 150 to 160 MPH winds atop Mount Washington yesterday, can ya beat that? :D
I had the Observatory website (http://www.mountwashington.org) on all day at work yesterday.  Even more telling than the 160 mph gusts was the fact the hourly reports to NWS had winds of 100 mph +, steady and sustained, from 9 pm Thursday to 11 pm Friday.  The max reported was 123 at 8pm (sustained), but there was no report at 7 so it could have been higher.  Air temp never climbed higher than -4.  From this chart (http://www.mountwashington.org/weather/comments/2008/IMG_4450.JPG) it looks like a max of 149 mph is written in the center!

Currently at 8am winds are down to a brisk 84 mph.  I love that place, have driven up twice, and climbed it a dozen times or so.

The thru-hikers of the of Appalachian Trail always talk about the mountains of the presidential range...I beleive the AT goes right accross the top of Mt Washington.  They always say you have to b extremely cautious when beginning that segment because the weather can change and a storm can come up in a heat beat. That is the most dangerous aspect of the AT because many die there when they get stranded in the middle of a storm...boy, i cant wait 'til i hike the AT, all 2600 miles of it. Here in Va, we have the most miles of any other state, 500 miles of the AT.  I've hiked all of it here.

How about trying the Presidential Traverse, which is going to all 13 peaks (Webst, Clay, Franklin, Eisenhower, Washington, Jefferson, Sam Adams, etc...) of the White Mountains which consists of 19 miles. Whewww i get tired just typing this and not hiking.

We have had if I remember correctly 3 deaths on Washington this winter alone. I have a buddy that goes up into the White Mountains three or four times a winter and camps out. usually once for a week! Froot loop is all I got to say. He says its better because he doesn't have to deal with the black flies!

Sad part is they wont let you come to Canada unless your a doctor or a really good hockey player. That or unless you dont speak English, have no job skills and are willing to become an economic slave. I think its the same way with the Americans, well except for the hockey player part.

Convoy
Written by:  By Bill Fries & Chip Davis

Uh, Breaker One-Nine, this here's the Rubber Duck
You got a copy on me Pig-Pen? C'mon

Uh, yeah 10-4 Pig Pen, fer sure, fer sure
By golly it's clean clear to Flag-Town, C'mon

Uh, yeah, that's a big 10-4 Pig-Pen,
Yeah, we definitely got us the front door good buddy,
Mercy sakes alive, looks like we got us a convoy

Was the dark of the moon, on the sixth of June
In a Kenworth, pullin' logs
Cabover Pete with a reefer on
And a Jimmy haulin' hogs
We 'as headin' fer bear on I-One-Oh
'Bout a mile outta Shaky-Town
I sez Pig-Pen, this here's the Rubber Duck
An' I'm about to put the hammer on down

Cause we gotta little ol' convoy, rockin' through the night
Yeah we gotta little ol' convoy, ain't she a beautiful sight?
Come on an' join our convoy, ain't nothin' gonna git in our way
We're gonna roll this truckin' convoy, cross the USA
Convoy... Convoy...

Uh, breaker Pig-Pen, this here's The Duck
Uh, you wanna back off them hogs
10-4, 'bout five mile or so, 10-roger
Them hogs is gittin' in-tense up here

By the time we got into Tulsa-Town
We had eighty-five trucks in all
But they's a road block up on the clover leaf
An' them bears 'as wall to wall
Yeah them smokies 'as thick as bugs on a bumper
They even had a bear-in-the-air
I sez callin' all trucks, this here's The Duck
We about to go a huntin' bear

Cause we gotta great big convoy, rockin' through the night
Yeah we gotta great big convoy, ain't she a beautiful sight?
Come on an' join our convoy, ain't nothin' gonna git in our way
We're gonna roll this truckin' convoy, cross the USA
Convoy... Convoy...

Uh, you wanna give me a 10-9 on that Pig-Pen?
Uh, negatory Pig-Pen, yer still too close
Yeah, them hogs is startin' close up my sinuses
Mercy sakes, you better back off another ten

Well we rolled up interstate fourty-four
Like a rocket sled on rails
We tore up all a our swindle sheets
An' left 'em settin' on the scales
By the time we hit that Chi-Town
Them bears was a gittin' smart
They'd brought up some reinforcements
From the Illinois National Guard
There 'as armored cars, and tanks, and Jeeps
An' rigs of every size
Yeah them chicken coops 'as full a bears
An' choppers filled the skies
Well we shot the line, an' we went for broke
With a thousand screamin' trucks
And eleven long-haired friends of Jesus
In a chartreusse microbus

Ah Rubber Duck this is Sod Buster,C'mon
Yeah 10-4  Sod Buster, listen
You wanna put that microbus in behind the suicide jockey?
Yeah, he's haulin dynamite
He needs all the help he can git

Well we laid a strip fer the Jersey Shore
An' prepared to cross the line
I could see the bridge 'as lined with bears
But I didn't have a doggone dime
I sez Pig-Pen, this here's the Rubber Duck
We just ain't a gonna pay no toll
So we crashed the gate doin' ninety-eight
I sez, let them truckers roll, 10-4

Cause we gotta mighty convoy, rockin' through the night
Yeah we gotta mighty convoy, ain't she a beautiful sight?
Come on an' join our convoy, ain't nothin' gonna git in our way
We're gonna roll this truckin' convoy, cross the USA
Convoy... Convoy...

Uh, 10-4 Pig-Pen, what's yer 20?
Omaha?!
Well they oughta know what to do with them hogs out there fer sure
Well mercy sakes alive good buddy
We gonna back on outta here
So keep the bugs off yer glass
An' the bears off yer... tail
We gonna catch ya on the flip-flop
This here's the Rubber Duck on the side
We gone
Bye, Bye...

Just had a guy Fri. morning from New Hampshire get killed in a semi hauling jet fuel. Some mouthbreather raced onto I 91 in Chikopee Mass. right as you go over the Connecticut River. Cut him off, and in the process hit another car. The guy swerved to avoid them, rolled the truck and tanker. Massive explosion. He lived to the hospital but was burned so bad he didn't make it.

Sometimes it is better off not to swerve to miss the adrenaline-filled-brain-dead driver wanna be.  Tighten the grip on the wheel and plow right into him---hopefully there will be witnesses coming forward as they clean the 2 ounces worth of brains off the ashpalt from the person at fault.

I see it all day everyday where these cars switch lanes constantly and pull right in front of a 40ton rig within a few feet.....they must think these trucks can stop on a dime.  Oh, but that is just it, they don't THINK.
Title: Re: Comparisons!!?

Man that is rough...tankers are so much worse than other trailers because of the shifting liquid.  I guess people think that those red placards with 1863 on them are just there to make the rig look better.
Title: Re: Comparisons!!?
Post by: dumbucket1 on March 29, 2008, 10:59:58 pm
my company tells us to stay in our lane, never ever swerve. If you change lanes to avoid a car and you hit another you are now at fault.

I remember one time i was on 71 going back to the hub i was taking a left hand turn ...I hear BAM clank clank clank...I looked in my mirror and some kid in a honda civic got the front of his car stuck under my trailer....Now mind u i was in my lane following the rules....But he wanted to try to pass me and couldnt stop in time....He walked away that time..I got cussed out...The cop wanted to blame me for running a red light but there wear to many there that backed me up

Years ago I drove big trucks. Always swore I would not swerve to miss a 4 wheeler and take the ditch but when it actually happened my reaction was to swerve and miss.

Years ago I looked into getting an American Trucking company to sponser me but I didnt like the whole immigration set up.
See your really at their mercy. If they dont pay you or decide to really use you like crap, basically its to bad. They can and will just have you deported if you have any complaints.
The only resonible way to immigrate to the US that I know of is if you have the money to start a company that will employ two Americans full time.
Immigration is really messed up, both in the States and up here in Canada. There is a reason why middle class types from similair cultures dont immigrate here.
With the oil boom here in Alberta what we are doing is giving out temporary working visas. All kinds of good jobs here but the cost of living is so high that you can be making $25 an hour and still be homeless. I dont think its right to fool all these people into coming here.
