How many 73-87 trucks have you/your family owned over the years?
I own-
'73 GMC custom 1500 2WD 307 3 on the tree. I'm the second owner. (bought last summer)
'81 GMC Sierra Classic 1500 2WD 5.7 diesel ( :-\) TH350. Was bought by a farm implement dealer. they had a Goodwrench 350D installed in '84. They closed in '85 and a farmer bought it. I bought it from him a few months ago, not running.
'84 chevy Custom deluxe 20 383 stroker Th400. Don't know any history on it. (had it for about a year)
'82 Chevy K10 6.2 diesel Th350. Bought a few weeks ago, new starter and glow plugs, been driving it ever since (I love diesels)
*coming soon* mid 70's Chevy K20 292 straight six 4 speed stick.
My dad has-
'77 Chevy K10 350 (used to be a 400)
'83 K25 for parts
'85 K10 400 SB bored out to 409 Th700R4
'87 K20 Suburban 350 Th400
I will put pics on when I get time.

This is going to be a good one! I'm sure some of the guys honestly can't remember all of them. I have owned 7 & still have 4 at this time. My '78 4wd longbed w/455 Olds, the wife's '85 2wd shortbed w/455 Olds, a '78 4wd shortbed "beater", a '77 4wd shortbed parts truck & many, many spare parts. I see you say "I like diesels", but do I need to tell you what I would do to your non-running '81? Lorne

I dont own the 1 i am working on which is my mothers which is a 1980 but i have owned 1 1983 k5 blazer. It had a 1981 z28 350 in it and it ran like a raped ape.It had a 700r4 which blew up n i had a th350 built for it.That was something i shouldve kept but at 20 at the time it was costing 60.00 a week in fuel and around 320.00 a month just for liability for insurance which it was killing me considering i was flat rate at a body shop and never got ahead. So i sold it and bought a brand new 1995 chevy beretta.
thanks

^ Just a suggestion, but you should ditch that tiny air cleaner for at least a 14x3. Even Edelbrock recommends against anything smaller than a 10x2 in their owner manual for Performer carbs. The bigger the element, the less restrictive it is. I like that truck though. Nice and clean.
I've only had 2:
The first vehicle I ever owned which was an 81 GMC Jimmy 2wd Sierra Classic. Stock 305 2bbl, TH350C, posi 3.08 rear, 15x8 rallies, red with white upper cab and top. Later painted to metallic black with GM Slate grey top, by Maaco. It turned out suprisingly well for a 'cheap' ($1200 in 1992) paint job. It was sharp for a high school driver and with the aluminum running boards it had (I grew up in Saskatchewan; EVERY vehicle had running boards due to gravel roads) and the 2wd, everybody figured it was lowered. Had a big stereo in it and I loved taking the top off in the summer. Problem was getting friends to help get the top back on at the end of the night! Had air (non-working), tilt and cruise and red interior with stock black/white houndstooth seats with red vinyl trim. It was a good vehicle and was partly the inspiration for my current toy.
Current toy is an 81 GMC short-wide 2wd that started life as a 6 cyl. auto. In 1999/2000 it was restored by it's owner at the time into an 85 Silverado 350/TH350 mild hot rod. Sold to a young kid whom I bought it off of, and he stored it outside so it has a few small rust issues in the usual spots of which I'm trying to take care off. Otherwise it's pretty nice for the $6k I paid for it in April of 2004. It's mostly the same as I bought it, except I've cleaned it thoroughly, reversed the tires, added a tach, changed batteries, valve covers and air cleaner and put some louder mufflers and nice exhaust tips on it, and replaced the tranny cooler. Oh, and put charcoal leather buckets in it as I work on the stereo. It's coming along. Heads and cam are coming hopefully soon to really wake it up.

I feel totally inadequete really. This is my first one. a '79 BB crew-cab lwb C20 (I think!) soon to be painted Hugger Orange with black roof and part sides ;D
-
First was a 1975 Chevrolet Scottsdale long bed in green (first vehicle I ever bought new off the showroom floor.) Wanted a short box stepside. Dad was concerned about resale value and pressured me into the longbed fleetside.
Second was a 1977 short wide Scottsdale with Cheyenne body moldings in Cordova brown with bucket seats (I ordered this truck -- only vehicle I ever ordered). Really wanted a stepside, though. Wife didn't care for the stepside body style. This was a nice pickup.
Third was a 1979 GMC Sierra long bed. Still had the '77 Chevy. By then I had resigned myself to the fact that I wasn't going to get a stepside.
Fourth was a 1979 Blazer 4x4 Custom Deluxe model. (Had children by then and needed a rear seat.) Last one of this body style I bought new. In fact, I didn't buy another pickup until 1998.
Finally, my 1980 stepside -- the body style I always wanted, and I'm really enjoying this one.
-
I guess I'm a lightweight, this '76 is only my second ;D
A few years back I wrung about 25,000 miles out of a rustbucket '79 Custom Deluxe, technically I still own it but it's not much of a parts donor, I had it stuck back in the pasture planning to rob the front calipers and rotors for a GMC van I owned at the time, my Dad decided to burn off some weeds one spring and burned it down to the ground :o
It had a topper on it, so it had several jugs of waste oil, an 'extra' TH350 still full of ATF, and some assorted lumber stacked in there, it wound up hot enough to burn off three of the tires ;D
I'll post some pix tomorrow......

haha, i've had the same number as you CaptKaos...
1) 1979 C10 Custom Deluxe shortbed fleetside. my first ever vehicle, bought it for $300 (i saved it) and it ran like a dream...really should have hung onto it...it had a 305, Th350 and a 2.76 pegleg...but it would out-powerbrake (i was 14...leave me alone) my friend's '85 F150 with the "firebreathing" 351W (i also own that truck now)...my stepmom totalled it...
2) 1979 C10 Custom Deluxe longbed fleetside. this truck was fun...it had a '63 Corvette (ran the numbers, it was the real deal) 327 with camel hump heads mated to the 3-speed manual it originally came with. it was a 250/3-speed no options truck. it had no power steering or brakes...lots of fun. i rear ended a Dakota *cough* looking at a woman*cough* and since i didn't have a front bumper at the time i busted my radiator...since it was raining and i was an idiot, i didn't think to check to make SURE i had coolant...on the drive home i cooked it (knocked out my gauge lights) and she started knocking...ended up installing "Windows" in the block...lol.
3) 1979 K30 Silverado longbed fleetside. this was probably my favorite so far...its so hard to say though...i got it from the original owner who only drove it on special occasions or when he needed muscle. it was a special ordered truck with pretty much every option. it had PW/PDL, bucket seats, dual tanks, 454, SM465, NP205, AM/FM Stereo, full gauges to include tachometer, tilt steering, delay wipers, spare battery, sliding rear window and the fuel tank shield package. it had some other lil stuff but that was the bulk of it. it was Mariner Blue Metallic and Mystic Silver Metallic two tone...he blew the 454 with just 65,XXX miles (ORIGINAL thermostat stuck, he didn't see the gauge fast enough...ended up running it until IT shut down) and decided to sell since he was up there in age...we bought it, rebuilt the 454 (built it into a 468) and threw a better clutch in it (Centerforce Gold), lifted it about 13" (10" suspension, 3" body) and ran 44's on it...although it never saw TOO much abuse aside from the occasional tug-o-war in the mud (the Detroit locker we installed in the rear worked NICE!) and some mud boggin...sold it when i left for the Army...
4) 1975 K10 Custom Deluxe longbed fleetside. this truck was a basketcase. it was a 350/Th350/NP203 truck and it had way more problems than i had time/money to sort out...wheeled the heck out of it, sold it to a guy i worked with who i guess still has it...
5) 1976 C10 Silverado shortbed fleetside. this truck was GORGEOUS...and FAST. it was all black with chrome trim, had red velour interior. it had a beefed up 350 (AFR 194 heads, comp cam-not sure on specs, Holley 650 carb, Weiand intake, some other stuff too) and one MEAN exhaust note. had a set of Corvette rally's on it with some FAT tires in the rear...like the idiot i've proven to be, i let my now ex-wife (then fiancee) drive it...she goosed it, lost it, hit two cars and put it in a ditch. bent the frame beyond repair, motor went in a '86 Z28...
6) 1986 K20 Scottsdale longbed fleetside. didn't have this one long, i had a deal worked out to buy it from a work associate, drove it for a month or two, things went kinda sour and we both agreed to just trade money for truck...it had a 350, Th400, NP208 and a bent frame...it dogtracked...
7) 1986 K5 Blazer. always wanted one of these, and almost had one. i got it as a parts truck with a good title, i was determined to rebuild it. it had a 6.2 diesel and a 700R4 with a NP208 and was a Silverado with power everything. it needed a front clip, transmission and a few other things...so i bought a
8) 1987 K10 longbed fleetside. that had a 4.3 TBI and a 700R4 with a NP208. this truck was parts only and had no title. but, i ran out of time as they were in my barracks parking lot and they both got towed because my CO was a F*rd fan. i was out in the field and they were towed but the two F*rds that were surrounding them weren't touched. i raised cain and the two F*rds were towed...go me...
9) 1976 K15 (finally, a GMC!) concoction...it was a '76 GMC K15 cab on a '8X K5 Blazer frame with a flat steel bed. it had a 350/Th350/NP205 combo and i was running 36" military tires...with stacks up the back of the cab. it was ugly and could crawl over the occasional pesky Honduh or Mitsubishi...
10) 1978 K20 Custom Deluxe shortbed fleetside (let me explain). this truck started life as a K10 Custom Deluxe shortbed fleetside with a SM465 and a 350. after some extensive modification it was a K20 with a 454/SM465. it had a 14b FF rear, D44 front with 8-lug outers (hence why it's only a 3/4 ton), about 11" of lift (8" suspension, 3" body) and 38" tires. had a gorgeous red/ghost flames paint job...there are pics floating around here of it. shouldn't have sold it but my G/F came first in that one...she didn't want me to sell it but we lived 350 miles apart at the time and i couldn't afford a beater to go see her in...and i didn't own stock in Exxon.
11) 1983 K1500 Sierra shortbed fleetside. ahh, my baby. got her about a year and a half ago with 71k original miles from the original owner. i have most receipts and now she is sitting at 79k needing some work (yea, only 79k miles but 25 years). she has a 305/700R4/NP208 and still has everything pretty much as it left the factory minus the CD player added before i bought it. factory AC is still cold, everything works. plan to put some money into this one...can't let another nice one slip by me...

Just checking back in with pix, one truck as an example of what *not* to do, and my current project with the obnoxious paint job ;D
My old '79 won't be supplying any parts, but it ought to make me some scrap money when 'the flame' is running :D

Well lets see, I have owned and still own nearly all of mine. I got my prize truck my 85 GMC Sierra 3500 rfom my uncle he couldnt see it go to scrap yard like his other chevy. So I took it and am in the process of restoring it. Got that in january since then I have acquired:
1985 K5 Blazer (Parted then scrapped out)
1985 K5 Blazer (In process of parting out and scrapping)
1987 Fullsize GMC Jimmy (Almost done parting out and scrapping)
1978 C30 Mason dump (Almost done parting out and scrapping)
So in just about 5 months time I have acquired 5 trucks...gosh I hope I'm not setting a trend for myself I could run out of space quick at 1 truck per month. Not a good sign.

Let's see everyone's list of all the 73-87 trucks they have owned, or currently do own. Include pics if you feel like it, i would love to see them. But i would also like you to include your overall opinion of whatever truck/s you list.
Own:
A red and tan 1987 Chevrolet Silverado 1/2 ton longbed 5.7L. My favorite of all my trucks. Love it, will never sell it. Has all the luxuries that i have come to realize that i just can't live without. I dont like yanking and cranking and struggling and waiting on window handles like some kind ancient vehicle. Paid $1500 for it a little over a year ago, but had to immediately rebuild the 700R4 transmission and replace a ball joint. I am the 3rd owner of the truck, and as far as i can tell it has never been wrecked and was treated well. Just time for a mild restoration.
Have owned before:
A white 1986 Scotsdale longbed 305ci(i think it was a scotsdale, it was a low end work truck) Junker. It ran ok but it was used up. Could have been restored but i came to realize i wanted all the factory options that came with a silverado. I bought it cause i wanted another one of these trucks and it was very cheap. Thought the better of it and sold it later after resolving to find one that i deemed worth having.
A black 1985 Chevy silverado 5.7L automatic, shortbed (dont know what tranny, didn't care to find out as i disliked the truck). Only kept the truck for 2 weeks before i decided that i did not want it. I could tell it had been in several wrecks and the engine was needing a rebuild. Decided that i just didn't like the truck (or shortbeds) enough to fix it all up. I am still owed $250 on this vehicle. However, i never raised any problems for the guy who bought it, and he went out and got his own title so now i can't contest it. Oh well. What goes around comes around.
A white 1984 silverado 1/2 ton automatic, shortbed. Found out after owning this junker for a few months that is had been in multiple crippling wrecks, including a trip to the bottom of the lake. Engine ran badly, decided i just did not want to put any money into something that had been so abused. Had more owners than a... well you get the idea.
A blue and silver 1981 Chevy silverado longbed, 305ci with a 3 speed automatic. This truck is what got me started on loving these old trucks. I was the second owner of the truck, the first owner had bought it new back in 1981. His son sold it to me after he passed away. It had never been wrecked, but was showing the signs of it's age. So i had the seats reupholstered, they looked brand new. Same with the headliner and the carpet. Everything else was still in good enough shape as to not really warrant spending the money on a replacement. Never got around to painting the truck, but you could tell it was garage kept so it wasn't that big of a deal. The 305 was pretty tired, but i wasn't really into trucks when i had this so i never bothered to replace it with something better. I didn't realize i loved this truck till after i sold it, to a guy who promptly popped a new 350 in it. Doh! Once he was even driving down the road at night and the headlights cut out. Haha! He still has it, but i can't really say that i want it back. I used to, but not anymore. I have a better one now, even though the body needs a lot more work.

my dad let me drive his '76 Chevy 350 growing up as a teenager. It had cherry bomb duals and we threw in a 327 from a '66 station wagon. That thing would light up the tires with ease. Convinced me to get my '79 and add more displacement ;D

First, 1979 K20 - Truck was lifted and my first "off-roader". I'm sorry I ever bought it because it was not well taken care of mechanically.
Second, 1989 K5 - Simply for off-roading. Ended up trading it on 2 Toyota diesel pickups.
Third, 1985 3500 - Nothing much happened with it, sold it when I got my '86 dually.
Current, 1986 3500 - Big boat. Great truck though.
