Hello everyone. My name's Ricky. I am picking up a 1973 Chevy long bed this weekend to be my offroading project truck. It has a blown 350 (not force inducted... blown up) and a 3 on the tree. I have a 350 laying around that I'm going to freshen up, and I'm thinking of searching for a th350 or th400 to throw in it. My other plans are to lift it up and do all the muddin' goodies. I'm getting it for $500... I think it's a good deal.
Right now I have a 2006 Nissan Xterra with 33'' BFG MT's and a 3'' lift kit as well as some other modifications here and there. Seeing how much the big boys have fun not worrying about messing up their trucks got me into the search.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention my other toy - which is about to be for sale. It's 1987 S-10 Blazer. It's a 2 door, 2 wheel drive. I had it lowered 4'', House of Kolours sparkle paint job (looks like a bass boat when light hits it), and the interior is pretty much all custom. Now the best part... it has a 400hp 350 under the hood hooked up to a th350 transmission with a 2800 stall converter and a shift kit. It's a fun little street truck that can go to the track and turn out high 12's/low 13's with some sticky tires and slapper bars. I'm going to sell it for money to put into the '73. If I can get $5,000 for the plans, I'd have more than enough to take care of the plans I have right now for the '73.

A little change of plans. Since I would be keeping this vehicle at my parents' house (I only have room for what I have at my house), dad said he'd rather me not have a vehicle stationed there that couldn't be started up and moved if and when it was in his way. So I opted out of buying the truck after all.
However, I have found a couple other trucks I'm looking into. One is a 1974 Chevy 3/4 ton with a 350/350 engine/trans and with a great body on it considering it's been sitting for about 2 or 3 years. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this weekend when I go meet up with the seller to really check it out. If it doesn't work out, I'm going to keep on trying until I get something.
Once I do get something I'm thinking a 6'' suspension lift and some 35'' BFG Mud Terrains for starters. Then I'll just go from there!
Thanks again for the warm welcome.

I actually live in good ol' Chuck Town (Charles Town). About a mile from the race track in the direction of Shepherdstown. I work in Montgomery County, MD. So I'm through Frederick, MD all the time. Our good (well... halfway good) offroading spot is in Harpers Ferry though. If anyone would like to go, hit me up and we'll go wheelin!
Here are two pictures of my Xterra. One's a good poser shot and the other is it in action. Nothing big and bad, but definitely fun.

Welp, I picked up a truck today. It's not the 1973 like I had intended getting. Because I'm keeping whatever truck I got at my parents' house, my dad didn't want me to have something here that couldn't be started up and moved when it was potentially in his way. So I opted out on the '73 for the fact that it doesn't run.
BUT! I got a deal on another truck. It's a 1978 Chevy 3/4 ton long bed with a 350 engine and th350 transmission. The truck fires right up. It has a couple small issues that need to be worked out, but overall the truck is in such great shape I wouldn't be affraid to put it on the road right now. The seller told me that he swapped the rears that were in it out for a set of rears out of a full size Blazer when the front rear went out on him. He didn't know what the gear ratios are but said that they were definitely taller than what was in it. I'm very happy with this truck, and I can't wait to start fixing it up to go off roading.
