Ok I just bought a 02 5.3liter for my truck and I had a couple of questions before I start: the fuel issue, i know i have to run a high pressure fuel pump to run the efi setup on the motor but does any one know if any of the new style efi pumps will fit in my 85's dual tanks and if so where i can get them for decently cheap; the trans issue, i know the th350 will fit the 5.3 but i know the newer engine/trans setups run off of one ecu ( or at least i think so) will this cause the motor or trans to possibly not shift/over rev; advice, also any known knowledge on anything you guys know that i'll probably miss.
some specs from my truck
'85 LWB k10, th350/208, 4.56 gears, 36 inch tires, dual gas tanks from , soon to be finished custom interior.
Thanks for any and all replys

Sorry, I don't have much as far as answers to your questions. But I can tell you that you're gonna have a cool ride when you're done.
I wonder if newer truck fuel tanks would work? Or even GTO tanks. The GTO tank is a bit longer/narrow compared to the 99+trucks'. I considered using both in my truck, but it was easier to use a fuel cell in my case. I know they go for around $60-$80 with pumps. Is there a reason that you want in-tank pumps? The Walbro 255[inline] is a popular pump and it's pretty cheap too.

I am in the progress of doing this and another member just finished.
Fuel issue - you can get a 87 model sending unit that will go into the 73-86 tanks that will accept a EFI (AC241) pump. ALL of your rubber fuel line will need replacing to the High pressure fuel line.
Trans - You don't have to switch trans since it is a TH350. The ECM would just control the engine. Personally, I would use an Overdrive, but it isn't required.
IF you get the engine, get ALL (and I mean EVERYTHING) the wiring and the ECM.
My build is currently documented here:

So the 87 sender fits the earlier fuel tanks??
I'm looking to add a reliable low pressure lift pump setup to feed my 6.5 diesel @3-5psi in my 1976 K20. I believe in tank would be better.
Found the answer in another post. ;D It fits but no tank baffles in the 76 tank. I'll buy an 88-91 R-V series tank with the baffles.
Thanks.

Yes, it fits. I am doing this on my 78 Jimmy...
The saddle tank sending unit is the same up to about 1995...
