Title: Oil leaks, oil pan, valve covers (big block)
Post by: xtremjeepn on April 02, 2008, 11:00:15 am
Aside from just replacing old gaskets on the pan and valve covers (1974 454)  are there any newer better solutions for stopping oil leaks. (like valve covers with a newer design for old heads etc).

Looks is not may main concern but keeping ALL the oil off my parking spots is.

sure....only use RTV when necessary and use this kind

Always install all bolts before tightening any and torque to specs with a torque wrench.

For the intake manifold, ditch the end seals and use a center punch to make a series of impressions along the ridge. Use RTV instead of the end seals.

If you have a 2 piece rear main seal, offset the seal so that the ends don't line up with the bearing cap.

Get those kind of spreaders that spread the pressure of the bolt....like on my 383 stroker....

They are called spreader bars....

Make sure your valve covers are not warped....double up your gaskets could be a possiblity.
