As I have mentioned. I have a '74 F/S Chevy pickup. It has a 4" lift and 33" tires. It also has a 350 small block, Hedmen Headers and an Edelbrock 600 carb. ( I know how everyone feels about the carb, but I bought it already on the truck. It is brand new and the truck runs dandy.) Anywho, the previous owner didn't say anything about the tranny( 4speed with the granny). He did say though he thinks it has 3.73 rears. Now my questions are these. How do I find out what kind of tranny is it? Plus, how do I find out what the gears in the rear are for sure? Thank you once again.

The trans is most likely a SM465. To find out exactly what rear end gears you have is to remove the differential cover and it is marked on the ring gear. 41/10 is a 4:10 is an example.

Unless someone swapped in something else it will be an SM456.
