Title: in a situation.
Post by: KoolerSL2 on April 06, 2008, 02:30:40 pm
i got hold of a set of drop spindles.
well went to take em apart and clean em up and put all new bearings and stuff in and well 1 went smooth.
the other went smooth till i tried to put the spindle nut on.
it wont start or nothing.
looked the first thread or 2 are buggered up.
does anyone make  3/4 x 20 die?
or is there any other way to fix this without replacement?
help!

chris

Yes, I have a spindle nut rethreading tool set that works great or you can use a thread file.

thanks for the reply.
i looked localy at a thread file set but they didnt have the 20 thread pitch.
isn't that what GM spindles are IIRC?

Any thread files I have ever seen are four sided and double ended. I have two files, that gets me 16 different thread size & pitches. Even just a small triangle shaped file will work.

well the small file worked.
was a bit tight at first then it all smoothed up.
