I have been doing some repairs to my core support, and am looking for opinions on paint color. The truck is becoming more yellow as I work on it. I know it is a matter of personal choice, just wondering what others think. I was planning on painting the inside of the hood, inner fenders, etc body color.
So, body color or black for core support? Thanks for your input.
-
hey very nice i would go with the black but yellow would match the body hey what size tires you have on there
-
i have seen them body color and in my own opinion .... i do not like the look!!!!
i rather see a clean truck with radiador support and the radiator colored black(flat) this looks nicer imo.
-
Thanks for the replies, the tires are currently 31-10.50. I figured that black would be less noticeable behind the grill, but yellow would look better on the inside? Maybe the inner fenders should be black too?
-
cool that is what i am going to put on my 78 k10 when i restore it looks good keep up the good work
-
Personally, I thiink body color but then again my truck is black.
-
The one truck I did, I painted the top plate & the backside Red & the front semi-gloss Black. I kinda liked it, it tied the whole perimeter of the engine compartment together, but looked right through the grille. Just my opinion
-
Not fair JR, that is too easy. I should have thought of painting the whole truck black, then I wouldn't be faced with all these hard decisions. ;D
-
Sounds like a good idea, haulin. May be worth the little bit of extra work.
-
do you have any closer pics of the inside of the cab
-
Here are a couple that I have on the hard drive. I have some interior in now, but no pics.
-
looks good 77 i can not wait to get started on my 78 i have to replace my rocker panels and cab corners and get a new dash panel
-
Thanks Hotrod. I did the floor, kick plate, rockers, and cab corners on this one. I sure wish I had found this board before I did mine. It would have helped me a lot. I worked my way through it, though.
-
Here is my yellow 86. I like the core support black both sides.
(1) Allot less work than two colors.
(2) Black inside ties together with the inner fenders.

you did a good job this will be my first time doing that
-
Looks like a lot of good stuff laying around there Blazin. Thanks for the reply. So you painted the inner fenders black too? Gloss or flat? Any chance of a pic of the engine bay?
-
Gloss black. I have some somewhere. I will look for them.
Some of the pics were pre digital camera.
allot of good stuff! You don't even know the half of it. I have about 12 parts trucks / future projects! Plus a 45 foot box trailer, and three full size vans with all kinds of Chevy parts in them!
-
I personally like the fire wall in body color and the core support and inner fenders gloss black, even a little clear on them. I think you have so many contrasting colors in the engine compartment that having the large metal peices different colors blends right in. I like the grill area of the support satin or semi gloss because you see thru the grill but the focus should be the grill not behind it.
That's the way The General (original I know!) is gonna get done.
-
I vote for black ;D I did mine in black because my whole engine bay is black.

Thanks for the photos Jeff, It helps to see it... I try to imagine how it would look, but it is much easier with the help of a photo. The thing is my firewall is already yellow. I do like the look of yours, though.
I am starting to think it may look good with the inner fenders and core support in black, and the inside of the outer fenders and firewall yellow. I just don't want it to look like patchwork, though anything would look less colorful than it does now...
-
By the way, the wood blocks under the core support are temporary. I ordered the energy suspension bushing kit for a 4wd, and got a cab for a 2wd.
Luckily, I am installing a 3" body lift. The difference in bushing height can be cut out of the lift blocks that go under the core support and rear cab mounts. The wood blocks are for finding the required height before I cut the blocks that came with the kit.
-
I prefer all the underhood sheetmetal body color in most cases. However, not that I dont like yellow...but that might be a bit much. Mine is all white sheetmetal under the hood
-
The insdie of my outer fenders, hood, and fire wall are yellow.
-
Like Haulin Suggested, I too like the Black behind the grille, and Body Color under the hood for eveything.... If you plan on it being a runner, the dirt will be the most noticable/annoying to keep clean with yellow... :-X
-
agreed, if you plan to paint the core support yellow, I think Id paint the front side black, so you dont see the yellow through the grill, that might not look so nice.
-
hey 77 did you have a hard time with your transfer case cover was it rusty
-
Jeff (JJSZABO), That is a beautiful engine compartment! You've spent some time in there for sure. Lorne
-
Thanks Lorne, now hopefully it will start :D I've only bumped the motor over - have not tryed to start it yet - waiting for better weather.
-
I would definately paint the core support and inner fender black...no matter what color the truck is. I think a satin or semi-gloss would look better than a gloss black.
-
Thanks, Jeff.
I think that is what I decided on. Black for the inner fenders and support, and body color for the inside of the outer fenders and hood.
Thanks to everyone for your input.
-
I`m gonna have mine powdercoated gloss black say go black, i`m gonna have the firewall painted same color as the truck and the inner fenders powdercoated as well.
thanks

My truck is yellow too and the core support is black. Same with wheelhousings, but the rest of the engine compartment is yellow like the front fenders and firewall.
