Title: 700R4 problems
Post by: Leevon on April 06, 2008, 11:01:02 pm
I just installed a used (yes I knew it might have this outcome) 700R4 into my '87 1/2 2wd which was originally equipped with a TH375.

I am having the following problems; it shifts at high RPM only after letting off of the gas. It feels like it is shifting directly into 3rd but I'm not sure it could be 2nd and it does not grab another gear. The speedometer is also not working at all even though it fit right up.

I followed the TV cable adjustment procedure to a T, and also tried higher and lower pressure adjustments but this only caused no shifting at all. The TBI unit has the stock TV bracket and I bought a new cable.

Could this be a governor issue? Bad tranny? Thoughts?

Is it not upshifting unless you let off the throttle? If so either the TV cable is too tight or you need to check the governer. Pop the cover off, check the gear and make sure the valve moves.
