What are some ways I can lighten my K15 to get better acceleration? I'm going to have lots of power when I put in a better engine and don't want it dragged down by all the weight.

How about posting some photos of your K15 ? Inside, outside, under the hood......
Then go to a set of scales, You can find them at most trucks. Look for the CAT (or other) Certified Scales sign. Fill the gas tank and top off any other liquids and have your truck weighed. (some charge some don't) Then post the weight ticket here. That way we know what your K15 weight is to begin with and not what may be posted in some book. Then remove everything inside the K15, carpet, console, any trim, radio's and speakers can add up.

Big block turbo and convert it to AWD. It will be my version one of the AWD sports cars except with way more power. I just think it would be nice if it was lighter to enhance the acceleration.

Cheaper,Easier, and would have a Faster Truck, if you did the conversion to a Boxy S10 Pickup... That way you can just swap over a Olds Bravada Transfer Case,Sy/Ty Spindles,Drop Springs, and you would basically have a Budget Syclone... :-X

Well, you are going in reverse with a Big block if you want it lighter. Are you planning on leaving the solid axle up front? = more weight.
transfercase = more weight.
Are you wanting it to handle well, if so, you are really going in the wrong direction with a BBC and a 4x4.
If you want it to be quick, most Sy/Ty guys remove the front driveshaft and T-case and make them RWD only.

At the track with slicks on a prepared surface, rear wheel drive is the only way to go. I'm going to be on the street so AWD will be the only way to have serious acceleration. I want to be able to go less than a 10 sec 1/4 mile on drag radials. A guy with screen name "PARISH" had a 1999 Silverado 4WD with a turbocharged 402 and was running 10.02 @136 on drag radials. I plan on having more power because my motor will be bigger. I might not need to lighten it but thought it would help. I just have to figure out who can set me up with a strong enough AWD transfer case to replace the 4WD transfer case I now have.

Do you know that the main difference between AWD and 4WD is the 4WD has the ability to select 2WD? That's it unless you were planning on just running a viscous coupling.

I know Jim (PARISH's) truck well. this is his old website: http://www.neufamily.org/truck.html It is also a 99 4x4 that has IRS, 3/4THD trans (4L80E) a 406 engine (6.0L base) and a 3/4T T-case. It had a huge single turbo and was putting 125 shot nitrous to it... He was dyno'd at 1000hp with this setup and the IRS gives it better handling (over a solid Axle 73-87) He has now switched to twin turbos with a custom intake....
There is another user "Blacksheep" that is the first 99-up to get into the 9's with 9.94, it weighs 3800lbs and is a caged, and 2WD. PARISH didn't get that fast on the track...
I also know of another truck that is 2WD that is running in the 10's

And my twin brother drives one daily that should easily be in the 11's right now, and will possibly be in the 10's also.
The truck I am putting together will be 87 2WD with 6.0L and twin remote mount turbos. I should weight roughly 3200lbs (target weight) when I am done. This should get me well into the 10's with less motor....

Chris, Any idea what company converter these guys are using? Multi-disc, I'm guessing. Lorne
