Title: Removing and reinstalling door panels
Post by: got2haul on April 21, 2008, 07:06:29 am
Removed the interior door panels this weekend.  It turned out to be quite an ordeal.  I had a heck of a time getting the metal clips on the top edge of the door to release.  The door handle proved to be in the way, as well, and I'm concerned that I might cause some damage when it's time to put them back on.  Is there a secret to this like loosening the handle screws?  If so, how tough is it to access them once the door panel is back on to tighten them back up?

Any tips appreciated!

You release the top clips with the window down all the way and pull up on it.  I just pulled a set off some rear doors this weekend.  You cannot remove anything until the panel comes off.  Once you pop the top off (there is a screw where the handle was) and all the bolts are out, pull it away from the door and pull the handle.  It will come right off.

So to reinstall then, put the handle through the hole and snap them metal clips onto the top edge first.  Then the plastic inserts can be pressed into their holes and finally the screws reinstalled.  Sounds like it will be easier to put the panels back on than it was to remove them.  Thanks!

That is correct.
