How rare is this? :
-
A bed that isn't all rotted out? Around here thats pretty rare! ::)
-
I am speaking of the "Heavy Half" decal...this is a 73-77 bed in Lebanon, TN.
-
If you are talking only about the decal, well, it isn't reproduced. Trace it out you might can get a sign company to duplicate it.

I have a set of those I got from ebay some time back. Whenever I paint my
http://www.delbridge.net/chevy (http://www.delbridge.net/chevy) Big 10, I have the set to put on it.
-
the Heavy Half package? it's GMC's version of the "Big 10" package offered by Chevrolet. it's not super-rare but at the same time, you don't see 'em everyday either. heck, you don't see as many GMC's as Chevys anyhow...
-
I have read they did those because in california, the 1/2 ton chasis required catalytic converters. The Heavy Half or Big 10's had a 1/2 ton axle with a 3/4 ton chasis--therefore, exempt. I don't know if the website i read that from is correct or not.

that could be true. i think i've heard that before too...

GMC to Chevy= same truck different name! My '79 is badged GMC but over here the "Chevy" name has more cred hence mine will be badged Chevrolet ;)

Heavy Half or Big10 were HD 1/2T's They had a higher load capacity (basically 3/4T springs and brakes) and were emmissions exempt in all 50 states.
