Title: Should there be a disease that deals w/ our trucks
Post by: 1976Scottsdale on June 28, 2006, 10:00:00 pm
I just agreed to buy a 1983 Chevrolet K-10 this evening.  It is going to cost me $150.00 and has a rust free cab and doors.  That makes 10 of these trucks that I will have owned.  Has anyone else owned this many... or more?  Anyway, some of my friends have owned as many as myself, and we thought that there ought to be a disease name for this practice... other than lack of restraint or impulse control/stupidity.
Yes, there should be.
No, the named choices are correct.
Who cares?

how about "need-aNUTter-Chevyitis"?

I am afraid it is a terminal diagnosis, you just will never get any better.  ONce you get bitten by the bug, it's all over.

There are many symptoms.  Being on a newsgroup like this six times a day, not having any more space to park the newly acquired, telling the wife to move her new sedan out of the garage to make room for a new addition to the family.

It only gets worse with time.

I am truely sorry.

I'm not too sure on what the disease name is, but the cure is most likely not Botox, but it is Boties, side effects may include, bashed knuckles, uncleanable grease stained skin, alcholism, terrets disorders, insomnia, angry neighbors, county clean-up orders, rusty driveways, and the list grows and grows.

I bought my first one when I was 17, 77 C10, 350, 3 on the tree. and have owned well over 100 parts and driver trucks in the last 19 years.
My best one was an 86 K20, 350, 4 speed, 3:42s, 4" lift 36x12.5 tires. Bought it with 16,000 miles on it. in 1987.
My ex and I had an 87 K10 stepside, 305, 4 speed, 3:42s I swaped in 4:10s 12 bolt and a 44, 4" lift with 35x12.5s.
My all time favorite was a 78 K20, was far from pretty, built 350, 4 speed, 4;10s, 33x12.5s, locker in the rear, one of those trucks that everything was lose and worn but not yet completely worn out, took a beating, and just kept on running. That thing would burn some serious tire.
My 84 K10 long bed was an awsome truck too. Put over 80,000 miles on it 2 rearends, ( from doing a roll back ) and two motors. 4 speed, 2:73 gears, had a 283 in it when I got it has a 305 now.

I have had around a dozen of these trucks over the years have 3 of them currently. But I am really addicted to the 82-93 s10 trucks and blazers there is so much you can do with them. I have had at least 2 dozen of them over the years.

Well, lets see, this makes truck #5 from this body style. I've told my wife that this would be my last, but ya never know. I graduated from high school in 82 so my current truck is kinda "special". My first was a 86 LWB 2wd. I wrecked it three times before I graciously put it to sleep.(totaled). Had 1 K-5(84 model we called it booger)it was rusty and crusty, but mechanically sound. Owned 87 LWB for a short time(bought cheap and sold for 2x what I paid). Had 84 SWB, lowered FAST all the goodies, had to sell when #1 son came along. My latest is the 82 C-10(pics to come), bought it from a friend who was in a bind for cash. Mechanically good, body sound, little or no rust, has LOTS O POTENTIAL. Gonna have some fun with this one.:D

These are the ones I have had that were titled in my name to date (the ones I can remember)... I am really sentimental, so I keep alot of these.  I have no idea how many parts trucks or parts I have had.  I have throw alot of stuff away in the past, only to need/want it now.  I hang onto anything I find of value now.  The 2 73's I have had the longest, the '73 project truck and 78 2WD Jimmy I will NEVER sell.  I even went to look at 2 '86 4x4's this past weekend...

bold I still have as of today, red are ones I won't sell.

1979 C10 Stepside - 350/3 speed
1973 C10 Stepside - I6/3 speed ( this is the captkaoscustoms.com truck) going on 18 years
1976 C10 Fleetside - no motor (ended up parts truck as its fender and bed were on the above 73 for a while)
1981 K10 Fleetside Silverado.  350/SM465 - LOADED with buckets/console, tach dash, cruise, pw, pdl, A/C, 12bolt, quad shocks, dual tanks,  (I miss this truck even today)
1975 C10 Silverado LWB - 350/TH350 (fathers original)
1978 Suburban - 350/TH350 - tailgate
1982 C20 Silverado LWB - 350/TH400
1973 C10 Silverado LWB - 454/Th400 (grandfathers original)
1978 K5 Jimmy 2WD - no motor/trans, currently awaiting a TPI retrofit on the engine and 700R4 swap, future will be 292 turbo
1986 C10 Fleetside (this is the 73-87chevytrucks.com rolling advertisement documented on this forum)
1987 C10 Fleetside Silverado - 305TBI/700R4 - daily driver
1991 Suburban - 350TBI/700R4, rear air, and 3rd row seating, buckets in front

i have my 87 Chevy 2WD shorty wide that i won't sell. i don't have a desease with these trucks, i don't want more and more, these trucks ain't nothing but money pits, as i've learned over the 3 and a half years of having mine. don't get me wrong these are my fav kinds and if i came across another one in decent shape that was real cheap i would get it. but am i gonna go find everyone of them i can and  buy it, i don't think so. just 1 of these hurts my pocketbook too bad.:x  and i've got an 87, the newest year you can find.

I've had two...

1978 K-20 Silverado Long Bed
1977 C-10 Scottsdale Short Stepside

I used the 78 as a parts truck for the Stepside. Everytime I go out to my mother-in-laws and see it sitting in the field behind her house I feel a little sad that I had to take her apart.

Ive only owend three of these, including my parts truck.
66 C10 stepside had to introduce my 1st beater.
77 Suburban 2wd
my current 81 c-20
the parts truck 84 c-20
I really miss having the Suburban, it was 2wd came OE with the 305 2 barrel, automatic, I really suspected this truck to have C-20 suspension, as it sat high for a 2wd truck.
The owner of the land I had it parked on, passed away, (LSS) I had nowhere else to store it and had to let it go. :(

I have had (not in any particular order):
78 2wd blazer
73 4x4 blazer
82 2wd blazer
75 2wd blazer
74 2wd blazer (current project)
77 2wd short bed
76 2wd longbed
83 2wd longbed
84 2wd short bed
86 2wd short bed
79 4x4 3/4 ton longbed
73 2wd shortbed 454 factory big block orignal black truck. I wish I still had this one.
76 2wd longbed
78 2wd Suburban
89 2wd Suburban
90 2wd Suburban

All the above were complete running vehicles. I have bought I don't know how many parts trucks and blazers. Probably about another 10-12 trucks.

I also had a 71 4x4 blazer. I know this style is more popular but I honestly like the 73-87 trucks better.
