I need some help with this.
The only thing holding me back is removing the rod from the latch mechanism inside the door.
PLEASE HELP...
Almost forgot, 1981 GMC Stepper.

There is a locking clip on the rod. You need to lift it up (small rectangle piece with a taper) and push it down some. then you can pull the rod out. BTW, it is a PAIN to do. I did it this weekend with a long screw driver.

Thanks Capt.

I am a Chevy man through and through, but they dropped the ball when they designed those clips. Toyota, Ford, and a few others have it all over them with the plastic snap clips.
I use a 90 degree pick some times two of them to lift and slide the clip. Oh yeah I also keep a bag of new ones in stock. That way when I get irritated I can just snap the clips in half with a small pair of vise grips, and reinstall the rod with brand new ones.

Yeah, at least the switched to the plastic ones on the rods later on. The handle still has than metal clip though..
