Title: Paint code location
Post by: brewdogg on April 30, 2008, 02:43:39 am
Hello everyone I'm a newbie so please forgive my ignorance.
I am looking for the paint code on my '79 1/2 ton chevy. I have looked on the door jambs, glove box and firewall. I'm not sure if i'm not looking in the right spot or just don't know what i'm looking at. Could someone please point me in the right direction.

Look on the spid label in the glove box.

Look at the bottom of this one

I checked the glove box but it looks like someone has removed the sticker. >:( Is there any other location or way I can find the code? ??? I'm at a loss on this one.

IT can be in the glovebox or the inner fender on some models.

Our 79 has it in the glovebox.

Glovebox Sticker or Build Sheet (Sometimes inside the seat).

Where would the build sheet be? There is no sticker what so ever in my glove box so I am looking for any alternative to finding my paint code. Can I get paint chips or something like that to id the paint? If so, where would I look?

Find a good body shop and if they have a modern paint ID system they can do an exact color match.

I would have a shop do a color match. The only problem is that the paint is the original P.O.S. paint. So most of it has peeled down to bare metal. Needless to say, I have a lot of surface rust to deal with.

You should have some nice clean spots in the interior under the dash, headliner etc somewhere
