I have a '76 GMC and I have to slam my doors, so hard that it rattles the glass in the door! Needless to say, I HATE this!
And before I send my truck to paint, I would like to have this fixed! I know nothing about "strikers" or "hinges"! I'm just a guy with a truck I love!
I have noticed that when I lift the door, by the handle, it raises about 1 or 2 inches! I also notice that my weather strip is worn slap out and water seeps into the cab even when the door is slammed!!
What can I do to keep from slamming my doors? (Buy new door? :'()

Look at the latch in the door, and look at the striker. Is the striker hitting the latch? Is the nylon bushing on the striker? If the door moves up and down, your hinge bushings could be shot (replacements are at any auto store), OR, the door is torn at the hinges. Get us some pictures of these areas if you can.

yea my door was like that and all i did was put in new pins and bushings and now its like brand new

If it lifts 1" to 2" you have some door hinge pin issues. I would replace them and go from there. I have slammed a door in my 79 K30 for years. The pins, & bushings were good but the latch was junk, the whole door was falling apart, after market part, etc. I said the heck with it and just kept slamming it. Well one day I slammed it, me and my buddy got a shower of glass.

This might be solved by adjusting the striking towards the door. It takes nothing more than a large t50 or t60 torx and a socket to adjust it.

I had the same problem with my 78. 4 door pins and bushings later as well as the striker bolts. It was good as new.

If the door sags, and the striker is where it was when the door didn't sag, then, when the door hits the striker, it hits the striker with the top of the latch and in order to close the door is forced up onto the striker. If you don't want to mess with hinge pins, merely lowering the striker but keeping the same in-out setting will fix you up. Close the door almost all the way while holding the door handle button down and test it out while looking at the latch. Nothing should touch the striker except the actual latch that closes around it. If the nylon bushing is gone from the striker, buy a new bushing for each. Good luck!
