i dont know if we have done this yet but which manual is the best i got a haynes manual and it is a good one but i dont know if it is the best.
-
I can't count on my fingers and toes, how many times my Haynes manual did not have the info I needed. The more versed you become in these truck the less helpful Haynes or Chiltons will be. Try to find a factory shop manual.

Factory service manual

i know this is a old post but i just got a shop manual and it is the best and very detailed but i still want a chiltons lol

I hear ya Dusty, Personally I like to have as many of the Different ones as possible(All Factory Manuals, followed by a Chilton's and Haynes Manuals)... The Funny thing is, Back in Late 2000/Early 2001, Chilton bought out Haynes... Chilton was smart enough not to remove the Old Haynes Stock, and Replace it with theirs.. They even allow Haynes to release their own versions of manuals for the New Car/Truck Models.... I know to some it doesn't make a difference, but I have found that Certain Areas they both will offer better explanations, and more detailed photos to go with the info...
-
that was pretty smart of them i thought Chilton's just went out of business cause no matter were you looked you couldn't find any about 02 when i worked at autozone, people would come in looking for Chilton's and i had to send them out with Haynes. the a holes that work there now tho lol like to holler at me if i look at the books with out buying them. some of there customers service skills suck.
-
yea i like haynes but i know that chlitons is better so i will be getting one soon but i have a shop manual and it is so cool and it is detailed and tells you about everything.

You know I thought it was funny that Chilton's had such a lull there for a while, I thought for sure that my Vendor was off her rocker when she told me about it, but sure enough that's what they did..... Yeah I get alot of the same responses from the Stores around here, but then I ask them how their Companies Regional Manager or their Vendor for the Books is doing, and they always look at me dumbfounded :-X, cause I know who they are by name(& the fact that they still like me, only makes their life heck if they piss me off) ;D

My factory service manual came in last week from classic parts, pretty good service although a few pages are missing. The service manual really helps.
Chiltons, and to a lesser extent, Haynes just don't cut the mustard. And that's putting it nicely. i think the next step is for someone to put together an inter-active type repair book with a DVD or tape that shows the actual repair procedures; This person(s) will get all the marbles.
-
a few pages are messing did you not buy it new?
-
Yes, it's new, but i believe a reprint. When i say a few pages, i've counted about 4-5 so far and the manual is like 600 pages.
i think what i may do is call up classic and tell them about it. If they're decent, and i believe they are, they should send me the missing pages.
i don't consider 5 pages missing out of 600 a big tragedy, especially if they will make it right.
-
ok i hope they will make it right for ya good luck

I bought my shop manual from Bishko Automotive Literature for $92 including shipping..

they had an awesome manual on powerblock like a month ago... it was step by step pictures and detailed info page by page on swapping your motor with hadn tools. i can't remember the name and i can't find a link from their site but that's one i want to ahve...
-
i probably can't really help you, and, on top of that, i find it hard to believe that powerblock would ever go into such great detail. Which powerblock show was it?
Now, David Vizard has a book called "how to rebuild your small block chevy," and he has a chapter on removing an engine and it's pretty dang detailed. And then, he has a chapter on re-installation. In fact, i used his book to learn about engine swapping.
